I am a Dublin based wedding singer but travel nationwide for your ceremony music. I have been singing at weddings all over Ireland for over 10 years. Singing is my main passion in life.

I have sung at functions which guest artists have included Francis Black and Brian Kennedy. I performed a duet in concert with Daniel O’Donnell.

I was also the half time entertainment for Niall Quinn’s testimonial in the Stadium of Light, Sunderland, where I performed a dance version of Tomorrow (from the musical Annie).

I am getting married myself this year and to me music is one of the most important parts of the day (apart from the vows of course!). I feel the right music can really set the perfect atmosphere for the couple getting married and the guests.

About the House

The first part of the country house was built in 1789 and this area is now known as ‘Kate’s Room’. The original sliding sash windows still flood the room with light and open up views over the courtyard while guests relax by the crackling open fire.

Formerly an outbuilding for storing turf and logs in the 1800s, the bar area is now at the heart of The Red Door experience. The original flag stones pave the floor and give a warm authentic feel as you enter the building.

Today The Red Door is an exclusive wedding venue, defined by its attention to detail, personal service and ability to deliver incredible bespoke weddings.

The traditional open fires in the bar and Kate’s Room enhance the homely atmosphere and these areas provide a perfect place for guests to meet and have the craic before and after their meals.

From BluefishJD’s last post about choosing the wedding venue you’ll be up to speed and know he has the date, church and venue in the bag and with a little break in the planning process it was time to get back into gear and start looking at suppliers & services he and his bride would need to pull this wedding off. His first port of call was the photographer…

I have to be honest, initially we were a bit put off by the huge cost and I know as a professional offering a service myself that professional wedding photographers’ cost reflects their level of experience, skill, business expenses and their time not only on the day but in the editing suite after and hats off to them. A good photographer is worth his weight but in some cases we were looking at 2 months mortgage repayments just for photos which was a no go. Even some of the CD only packages were quite on the steep side – keep in mind I had started this process with a budget figure in my head and as we were paying for all this ourselves and want a life after our big day I had to be realistic.

Our Photographer Search

Knowing that we had not one but two semi-pro photographers (one who specialises in reportage photography which is what we wanted) on our guest list we knew we had a back up plan in those if all else was to fail. But the search continued, and as I consider myself an “alright” amateur photographer myself with a keen eye I knew what I was looking for. But then it happened… as like all these things by pure chance I came into contact with a local start-up photographer via work – I had seen some of her work previously, not knowing that it was her’s and was impressed. She had been working as an assistant photographer for a larger studio since finishing college, working mostly on weddings and portraits but had yet to do a full wedding on her own and was now breaking out on her own, starting her own business. So after a bit of chatting and bit of negotiating, we had our photographer.

At one of our meetings we went through her portfolio and her style was exactly what we were looking for – I knew that Bluefish Belle and I would not take too kindly to constantly standing and posing and smiling (you know those fake, forced smiles as you’ve been posing for so long your jaw hurts… just not us). We wanted a very reportage approach (with just a few of the typical generic “have to be done” poses – bare minimum) to capture our day and not only do we know she will achieve this but she couldn’t be nicer! I’m very excited for her to shoot our wedding, we already feel comfortable with her and she is so friendly so one thing we definitely don’t have to worry about on the day is “did the photographer get that?”!

Our Guest Photographers!

Going back to our photographic guests they have since approached us and said they’d love to capture the day in their own way as well as having the professional photographer there (which she is fine with too) and one of them gave me a great idea. He suggested writing a little note of welcome to our guests with a special request of passing on their photos to us via CD so as we can really capture our day from every angle! I love it – so we will have such a fantastic variety of shots now (I’d say the table ones towards the end of the night will be the funniest). I can’t wait to start creating our album…which I plan on designing myself.

If you’re animal mad then maybe the idea of incorporating a zoo into your wedding plans has crept in to you head one or twice. Okay, so you or your other half may not be on for exchanging vows standing beside a roaring lion, but there are plenty of other ways to bring a little animal fun into your nuptials.

Leopard print always crops up on the catwalk. You may want to go all out with your bridal attire, or just a splash here and there with your wedding favours or cake.

Building your favourite zoo animals into your table plans is a great way to show your guests your fun side. We love these cute cake toppers!

If you want to stay more traditional with your wedding décor and attire, you could always pop into the zoo to have your photos taken on the way to the reception, or even for a trash the dress session after your wedding! Just watch the giraffe doesn’t take a fancy to your veil!

The zoo seems to hold great childhood memories for most of us, and now you can make even more great memories there, as Dublin Zoo now cater for civil ceremonies in Haughton House.

Wedding gift lists are widely acceptable in the United States, but some people still aren’t so sure about the them in Ireland. It’s a great way for you to get what you want for your wedding, and hopefully not end up with 10 sets of candle sticks and 20 picture frames (unless you want them!). On the other hand, some couples feel it is pretentious telling your guests what gifts you expect! It’s entirely a personal choice, so if setting up a wedding list is something you’re considering, check out our Wedding List Etiquette Guide to make sure your list will work for everyone.

1.  Start Early

Believe it or not, there are people out there who will start thinking of wedding presents from the minute you announce your engagement!  While not everyone may be quite that organised, it’s a good idea to set up your wedding list early on – people might also use it to buy engagement presents, or to shop early – especially if your wedding will be at an expensive time of year like Christmas.

2.  Have a Wide Selection of Gifts on Your List

Unless you’re having an “immediate family only” wedding, you’ll probably have a wide range of guests at your wedding – and they will all have different budgets.  While there’s nothing wrong with having a €500 blender on your wedding list, you’ll also need to have a range of items under €50.  A good rule of thumb is to have 1/3 of the items on your list under €50, 1/3 between €50 and €150, and the rest over €150.  Also, aim to have a large number of gifts on your list, as guests might buy more than one item – especially if they are small.

3.  Think Outside the Box

Include items on your wedding list that reflect you as a couple.  Wedding lists are available at more than just department stores, so you might want to consider having a honeymoon list, or a charity wedding list – where guests make a donation to your favourite charity (or charities).

4.  Create Your Wedding List Together

As tempting as it may be to hit the shops with your friends, while leaving your other half in front of the telly, you’ll want to make your wedding list together.  Your guests will be buying gifts for the both of you, remember!  Take a day to go through your home and figure out what you might need (or like to upgrade!)  Try to split the decisions evenly – he might know a lot about electronics, while you might have ideas for your kitchen or bedroom.

5.  Include an Online Option, but Don’t Forget Actual Shops!

If you’re considering having more than one wedding list – at a department store and a honeymoon registry, for example – make sure at least one of them is online, for guests that are overseas, or unable to get to a shop near where they live.  Likewise, for guests that may not be too tech-savvy, make sure that at least one of your lists can be found at an actual shop, where guests can choose gifts in person. Examples of shops in Ireland that offer both online and in-shop gift registry services are: Brown Thomas, Arnotts and Kilkenny.

6.  Include Gift Vouchers

Even if you’ve hand-picked a wide selection of gifts at different prices, some guests still might prefer to give you a voucher.  Many shops will also include gift cards as part of their wedding list service, so be sure to include them on your list.  That way you can use them to buy the gifts you’d actually like from your list.

7.  Say Thank You!
