What’s the story with… Leap Year Proposals?

Good news! 2012 is a leap year, and that means (according to tradition, anyway) that on February 29th, women all over the world can propose to their men. We did a little digging through history and managed to find these proposal cards from the early 1900s!

According to Irish legend, this all started with St. Brigid, who complained to St. Patrick that Irish women were having to wait too long for their men to pop the question. What couples in Ireland spend to get hitched [ Infographic ]

The spend on weddings and civil partnerships is a popular topic of conversation in Ireland. Last week we brought you the results of Irish Wedding Survey 2012 and this week, we thought it would interesting to look at the data again in the form of an infographic. The big takeaway is that despite the recession, couples are still willing to spend a sizeable amount of money to tie the knot.

Many people will comment that it is very possible to do the whole thing on a shoestring. This is very true but the reality is that there are plenty of couples in Ireland prepared to invest a lot of their hard earned money to create the perfect wedding day of their dreams. mrs2be.ie estimates that the Irish wedding industry is worth between €500 million and €1 billion annually.
