We love the vibe of a city wedding, and today’s wedding of Lianne and Martin is a beautiful example of a fun and romantic celebration in the centre of Galway. Thanks to Michelle BG Photography for sharing their day with us.

Lianne and Martin met for the first time in Chicago. “We were both in the States for two weeks with friends. We hit it off straight away but as we were living in different counties at home, Limerick and Galway, distance proved an obstacle to meeting again back home. Luckily fate intervened and we met again unexpectedly in Limerick. Martin began his weekly trips to Limerick and the rest is history!” explained Lianne.

After buying a house together in Galway, Martin proposed over a home cooked meal and Lianne’s favourite wine and flowers, followed by the ring and Champagne. The couple continued their celebrations the following day at the Galway Races and drinks and music in the Meyrick, where they later chose to hold their reception.

“Little do you know how much goes into the planning of a wedding! Luckily I had three great bridesmaids, my two sisters and a friend, as well as my Mum on standby to ensure we put together a great party for everyone. I would have been lost without them! Looking back now, there’s so much of the planning process we really enjoyed. The venue is always going to be the biggest expense but it was somewhere we loved and was meaningful to us. We spent a little extra for our choice of menu but good food was one of the most important things to us. I initially chose a colour scheme of grey and blush pink but once we started planning I realised I like more colour and by the end we had dusky pinks, purples and grey!” said Lianne.

After a few early morning jitters and a lost speech, Lianne and Martin were married in St. Nicholas Church. Lianne wore a stunning Irish made bridal gown from De Stafford Bridal.

As with many Irish weddings the weather was unsettled to say the least! “The weather was like hurricane season but we will never forget our wedding day! We weren’t the only ones as we met another bride and groom on Quay Street later that day, they had also survived! Luckily you’d never know from the photos, the power of professional photography!” added Lianne.

“It really was the best day. We enjoyed every minute. We weren’t able to plan for the weather but it didn’t matter, once the day comes around, you are ready to enjoy it with your partner, friends and family. We absolutely loved the violinist Patricia Treacy who played throughout the dinner. She set the tone, from playing the welcoming music when we first entered the ballroom to her finishing piece of Riverdance, which had everyone on their feet! Our band, The Suite took over from there and had everyone dancing all night long,” concluded Lianne.

Lianne’s Advice

Try not to let the planning become too stressful or all consuming. It will all come together in the end and you’ll have a great day and party with all your loved ones. It’s a once in a lifetime experience so enjoy every minute of it but remember what it’s all about and ensure you get a quiet moment together to take it all in.
