:iagree with all the ladies on this, you would be mad to pass this up as Dresses are very expensive, but as the girls say if you can alter it (add bow, flower, brooch) personlise it to your own then i would defo go for it....... This can be even a new tradition to start off in your family. Good luck with what ever you decide!! i have no doubt you will be :smileybride

:iagree

I totally agree with the girls, no reason at all not to wear your sister's dress. And if you love it just as it is I wouldn't bother making changes to it either.

Can you remember the dresses from weddings you went to 3 or 4 years ago? I don't, at least not in any detail. People might remember roughly what your sister's dress was like, eg strapless, slim fitting, long train etc. But I bet they wouldn't be sure of the details and even if they wonder if its the same dress they wont be sure.

Its up to you if you tell them if they ask. In this day and age most people would probably think you are smart not to waste money on a new dress. But if you are not comfortable with that just say something like, " I suppose it is a bit like X's dress, what a good memory you have!"

Thanks a million for all the positive feedback girls, it's actually like a bit of a weight off my shoulders getting some advice on it outside of my family.

I have decided to get them to go ahead and post the dress out here to me and go from there. I will speak to some dressmakers and get some advice on some things that can be done with it or may even just add that shrug, it could be that simple.

I am quite excited about the whole thing now and like ye say in this day and age it would be madness not to :) I am just after waking up here in Oz so if I can locate a pic of the dress I'll throw it up here for you to see. Thanks again :happywave

I think it's a lovely idea and if my sister married before me and I liked the dress, I wouldn't think twice about it! It's your day and once you are happy and feel confident... Go for it!! :) you will be fab! :)

Hi Girls, here is a pic of 'the' dress on the model. Let me know what ye think or if ye have any suggestions. I feel like it would be almost a shame to go at it when it's already nice the way it is but def open to suggestions because I might not have thought of the right approach.

Cheers

It's gorgeous! Really unusual too! Having seen it now, i think you're right, it would be a pity to go at it and change it! I actually think it would be gorgeous with just a fur shrug, and that would be enough to change it! You could also get a different type of headpiece, i'm not sure what your sister had, but i think that dress you could nearly wear any headpiece from a normal veil to a birdcage one. I think i'd try it with a fur shrug and maybe a vintage style head piece, think that would be lovely for christmas!

Thanks 'awhiletogo' a vintage headpiece could be fab actually and could change the dress up a good bit too. I saw a FAB feather shrug on a blog there lately and I have fallen in love with it, I have posted it here to see what ye think. Now this was an english blog so not sure where I would even get my hands on it or anything yet :) Do you think the feather would go with the dress or would I be better off with fur to suit the dress better?

That is stunning!! You would be mad not to use it! I think there is a lot of potential for jewellry with it, if your sister wore small pendants etc wear a string of pearls, if she wore pearls go for a choker - it is also one that you could do hair up or down, could be nice with a small lace veil either... basically whatever your sister did accessories-wise you can definitely shake up a bit with this dress.
first I put my arms around him yes and drew him down to me so he could feel my breasts all perfume yes and his heart was going like mad and yes I said yes I will Yes.

Oh yeah, the feather shrug is fab! I think that with a vintage headpiece and maybe as yesisaidyes suggested, some pearls maybe or a choker and it would all look very vintage-y (if that's a real word?!) and gorgeous, and be really individual! There's loads of options with this dress i think!
(The frustrated fashion designer/stylist is coming out in me now!!)
