Black Tie?????

Postby kk2011 » Tue Jan 25, 2011 10:27 pm

Hope someone on here has positivity to send my way!!!

We booked our suits with Black Tie at the Wedding and Honeymoon Show in the RDS last September we paid a €20 deposit and got any suit (excluding page boy which is about €30 I think) for €67.50 including shoes and a new shirt to keep now I'm guessing the shirts will suck and to be on the safe side I'm buying the lads (well h2b is) their shirts as part of their gift. We can pick up the suits on the Thursday (Wedding is on a Saturday) and return them Monday/Tuesday.

Recently I heard alot of not so great stories and I'm just wondering if anyone has any reviews on Black Tie as I'm really worried but the cheapest quote we got elsewhere was €125 per suit and having worked to a budget based on Black Ties offer and we need 7 suits this has come as a shock if anyone can put my mind at ease out there in missie land please help!!! Or any true stories as I'm a bit worried as most of the negativity has come from other suppliers its not really nasty or anything but just its the same story over and over so don't know whether to believe it or not as suppliers always know someone who provides the service they are 'kindly informing you' about!!!!! Also h2b's friend used to work in the suit hire business as he calls it and knows someone in the Black Tie we would use and has assured me they won't turn out bad suits to him but still even if we do have to pay more I don't care as long as I know said 'stories' aren't just suppliers trying to get business for their friends which I do totally get by the way.

Ok I have heard both good and bad. Heard good stories from the guy who will be our best man, as they were used for his bro wedding. Heard then other stories where maybe things weren't the right size or wasn't quite what was ordered. So we decided not to book with blacktie at the wedding journal show. Just in case. We went with a guy in carrick on Shannon. We got 10 suits for 700 in the end. The way it worked was every 5th suit was free. And we will have the suits in the store 3weeks before the wedding and he gets everybody in to make sure everything is perfect. He has a policy of if it's not right on the day then you don't pay.

Hey hon,
We're in Cork. I've both good and bad stories. My friend (I was bm) had their suits and they were perfect but my brothers looked well but some shirts were dirty, buttons loose and even a packet of rennie in a jacket pocket. We went back got different shirts and the buttons were sewn back on the morning of the wedding(by mom)! A bit of hassle but have to say that when they went back and complained after the wedding, they got a 100% refund for all the problems! The suits looked great on the day and in the photos so thats the main thing.
Go with them but maybe ask if you can collect them a day early so you can sort any problems or just give them a REALLY good look over before you even leave the shop. You'll be fine I'd say, they've been in business for years so as long as you check everything beforehand, I'm sure it'll work out for you!

Thanks girls the dirty shirt story is the one we heard alright but sure with buying the lads the shirts hopefully it'll all be OK! Glad they got a full refund it's only right. I agree they have been in business a long time and are a huge chain so there must be a reason for it. Dragonfly recommended a local company I had totally forgotten about so we will check them out and then make our decision hopefully in the next week or so!

I was a bm at my best friends wedding and they used Black Tie. Didnt have any problems with them and as they wanted a black tie wedding, they got €20 off vouchers that went out with the invites for people to use. Its probably just hit and miss but most places are I think. And you'll always hear more bad than good about shops. If you went for dinner and it was lovely you wouldnt necessarily spread the word but if you got bad service you'd tell everyone to avoid it. Good luck with it anyway though :-)

Lol absolutely no problem they are Youngs hire but they dont have shops themselves . . . they work through already established / running businesses if you get me
http://www.youngs-hire.co.uk/ is their link (in Dublin they run in a shop in Liffey Valley trying to see where in your location
the suits are about €110 each - groom goes free)

They are lovely!
H2b wore same one to my debs 6+ years ago lol
