Yeah, my fiance sort of did, by asking for his blessing but only after we'd talked about it for ages and after we picked out a ring together!
I'm not close to my dad and definitely not daddys little girl so I was actually a bit offended at the idea but he reckoned it would just be respectful and it's a small thing to do to make him happy.
Apparently my dad was so shocked he couldn't do anything but order them both a stronger drink!

Glad it's not just me - I seem to be turning into a feminist with all of the sexist traditions associated with weddings and marriage!

I wonder has anyone's father ever said no?? (recently, I mean, I'm sure they did 100 years ago...)

H2B asked my dad when he came home to Canada with me at Christmas. Spent the whole holiday kissing up to him by shovelling snow out of the driveway!

@AprilRose - My friend's dad said no once! But that was because she was fairly young (21) and still in college, so he said no, but told the poor guy that once his daughter finished college and they both had steady jobs then they would definitely have his blessing.

Hello there
To be honest Im a tradionalist. Asking my FIL for his permission to marry his only daughter I feel was respectful.

I was really nervous about arranging a meeting with my FIL to ask permission to marry his only daughter.
I foned him in the morning first to arrange a time, but he was out and it was left that I would call him back to check if he was free in the afternoon. He called over to our house 2 hours later when I was in my boxer shorts washing the dishes  LOL! What a sight!!

Well, I think my FIL knew what my intentions where from the start.

Did your father find me funny Mrs2be?? :D
