Style suggestions for my fiance's entourage!!!

Postby mrsOtobe » Fri Jun 26, 2009 11:35 pm

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has any creative ideas for me on this! My fiance has a group of tight knit friends whom he say he can't choose between for a best man and groomsmen etc! At one stage he was suggesting (threatening!!) to have at least 8 lads up on the altar with him. (and apparently women are the worst for this kind of thing!!! :) ) Anyway, Ive managed to squash that!! Although there's every chance he was winding me up as he's the biggest wind up merchant Ive ever met :D

But he then had the idea to instead try to distinguish (mark them out as special!) the lads by co-ordinating their suits or something. But we're going abroad and aren't going to having the whole 3 piece suit thing going on as it'll be too hot. So Im trying to thing of something else we could do. There's the whole 'matching flower pins' thing but I'm trying to think of something a little more unusual/quirky. They're a real bunch of likely lads so I think they'd be up for anything and I'm happy to add a bit of fun to the procedings too!

Just thought I'd put it out there in case any of you creative people have any ideas!!

Hi There
I was at a wedding abraod where the Grooms Men wore black pants and a light Pink shirt. No tie, just open button at top, The Pictures looked great as they wore black sunglasses. Its just a thought. but the rest of the friends could wear maybe a differnet colour pink or a different colour altogether.
Hope that helps

H2B has already suggested kilts!!!!!!!

Think we'll be more likely to go with SoontobeMrsWilmotts style advice though! :D We definitely don't reckon they'll be doing ties - it's going to be too hot. Cool sunglasses are a good suggestion - thanks!

What about a beige linen suit?
They're ideal for weddings abroad. Although, I can't picture 8 guys in them. Maybe even just the trousers and a white shirt.
Clive Owen looks pretty hot in one anyway!

Ooh, nice pic, yeah Clive Owen looks good

How about these two chappies though - they can carry off a good suit....!

Ok, this thread may quickly descend into something else - have to consider renaming it to hot men in suits if so!

Mrsotobe, did you think of anything for this. As a treat i was going to get my H2B a load of personalised tshirts for the stag, with all the lads nicknames on the back of them! Maybe you could get personalised shirts or something for his friends with their nicknames! It would be fun!

Haven't thought of anything yet - still mulling over ideas. Funnily enough though, H2B is now steering more towards a smarter look than we initially thought. As we've started planning and imagining the day a bit more, he feels he wants to dress up in a bit more of a traditional grooms outfit, rather than just a light suit and no tie as we initially thought. So we're still thinking about it!

Still trying to decide on groomsmen. He's picked his brother as the best man and I have one bridesmaid so I think we're leaving it there. But we still want to mark out the rest of his close mates so we just need to get them something co-ordinating. Latest idea is pimped up, ghettofab canes! Which could be quite funny! Especially with the dark sunglasses. We're just looking to have a bit of fun with it.

Regarding the actual suits though, I've seen a shop advertised on the net somewhere that apparently specialises in mens suits for wedding abroad. Think it's in Drogheda - does anyone know it? I can try and find the link again if you want.

Hey mrsOtobe, I got married abroad last year and like you didn't know what type of suits to go for. In the end DH went shopping and ended up picking the suits himself which was great as I didn't have to worry about that end of things he went for a lovely grey colour and the suits were so light and weren't heavy to wear at all.
Some of my tips regarding buying suits would be --
If your only having one person in your bridal party don't hire your suits as it will be much cheaper to buy them. I found any of the hire shops I went into were charging me a fortune for having the suits hired out for the whole week. In the end DH bought suits in Best during the sale he got fab suits that were eur350 reduced down to Euro160 great value.
Best have lovely light suits all different colours and styles so well worth a look.
Also another tip I'd give is make sure your H2B buys an extra shirt, mine did and was delighted I thought of this as he was sweating from the heat of the day and also from the nerves hahaha  he changed shirt after the meal and felt much fresher.
Also consider what time your getting married at if your getting married later on in the evening when it is cooler you can get away with a light coloured suit if your getting married earlier on its best to go for a darker colour so it won't show any signs of sweat marks.
Hope this helps you... ;)

Thanks sunshine, they are great tips, especially the idea about buying a second shirt to change into. Wouldn't have thought of that.

We will have the ceremony at about 4pm I think. It took me a while to get my head around that! I kept feeling like the day will be half over by then, but after spending a few days in Portugal the other week, feeling the heat and listening to everyone telling us to wait until at least 4pm, I've got over it! It would be horrible to spend the whole time thinking about how hot you are and wiping the sweat from your brow!! Think I'll just book in for a prolonged massage and beauty session to kill the time instead! No great hardship I suppose! :clapper

Maybe they could do something special, rather than dressing to match (or maybe both!). My cousin married a guy who was a really keen surfer - when they left the church all his mates made a guard of honour with their surf boards. Maybe you could use hurley sticks, or whatever your man is into?
