I suppose my user name on here gives away that I'll be taking his name too! :D Sometimes I think it'll be a bit weird to lose my surname but I'm definitely a traditionalist on this one! Can't wait to be Mrs O! :bounce

I think double barrel is a good thing to do. But mine & H2Bs combination would sound rubbish!

I don't think it's all as big a deal as it once was anyway. There's no reason for a woman to give up her surname if she doesn't want to.

Yeah that's true. I was going to type earlier that some women like to keep their own name for career reasons. Which makes sense, if you've built up a reputation for yourself you mighn't want to risk jeopardising that by creating confusion over your new surname. I suppose it depends what your career is and what industry you're in etc, but it could be another good reason not to switch names for some women.

And actually, one wedding planner advised me not to get too excited and change all my passport documents so I could travel back from our ceremony abroad under his surname, as it can cause complications. I'm not even quite sure how that would work to be honest - you'd have to be particularly organised to even try and attempt that I think! - but it made me laugh, I'm taking his surname but I can certainly wait til a few days after getting home before making it all official! :)

I'm still undecided....
I have a weird surname and I always assumed I'd want to change it but now that it comes down to it, it turns out that weird surname is part of my identity... I'll probably do what I usually do when I can't make up my mind and try to go with both - double barrel but use either in different circumstances rather than both (they don't work well together).
Is it ridiculous to have two names????

I do like the idea of a family having the same name (we don't have children yet). Neither of us have any brothers so maybe I can convince him to take my name as well ;)
