Re: Colonic irrigation
extract below...
This is supposed to remove harmful toxins from the body, encourage the growth of healthy bacteria, boost the immune system and even help weight loss.
But U.S. scientists say there is no scientific evidence to back up any of these benefits.
The team from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, looked at 20 published studies on the effects of colonic irrigation.
They found patients often suffered side-effects including cramping, bloating, nausea, vomiting, kidney failure and a loss of key chemicals from the body.
The scientists also point out that many professionals who carry out colonic irrigation have no medical training

Re: Colonic irrigation
They have no medical training and it doesn't help weight loss. It is not a good idea to introduce large amounts of water into the body where it shouldn't be in the first place. I have read a lot of scientific journals relating to so called "weight loss aides" and pretty much all of them have been proven to do nothing at all to help weight loss, and may actually seriously harm a person (An unemployed scientist has to do something with her time! If you think about it, it makes no sense that putting lots of water into you could possibly help boost the immune system. There have been a number of medical problems resulting from forcing water into an anal cavity and rupturing the small intestine, which is pretty awful!
I would steer clear, save your money and just keep going with exercise and a healthy diet. There are no miracle cures, it is simply burning more calories than you consume each day, and you will lose weight.

Mrs Brideog wrote:God, it sounds awful! That's what I meant about the research. You hear rumours alright but it's definitely a good idea to do research first. Yeah, when you think about it the way LMEC has said it, it's amazing that people (including me) can buy into the hype and false advertisements.
Well I used to buy into them myself, because it sounds believable. I only started to doubt what was advertised when I started doing my masters degree, and I realised that people can publish whatever they want and nobody can stop them (even in medical journals, there are correct experiments and completely crap ones!) So I began to get more critical about what people tell me before buying into the hype. Unfortunately, some people don't always want the truth about some of these things, and get very annoyed when you tell them they should not waste their money on it, as they are so desperate to lose weight/get healthy/grow their hair faster/become more tanned/etc. I guess you can only advise people and hopefully the advertisers will eventually stop conning people out of money.

U dint wanna be too graphic..I was kinda horrified at the thought of old food lingering around... Thought it might be better out.. Think I'll stick to the vitamin supplements and walking the doggies.. I don't fancy risking any of the potential mishaps... Thanks missies
Stick with the dog walking and vitamins is right!

The session made me feel nauseous, bloated and very disappointed. Personally I would not recommend
