on the topic of wisdom teeth

Postby grogmg » Thu May 12, 2011 10:18 pm

Bit ironic really........ chatting with you missies about wisdom teeth extraction and h2b had his got his removed today!!!!

He'd been feeling off the past few days, started with a pain in his jaw and a pressure like headache and has been really out of sorts, also felt like he was coming down with cold with hot and cold flucuations and everything but still had this pain in his jaw so convenced him that he needed to see the dentist even just to rule out a problem with his tooth, especially as no pain killers were helping him!

Problem is h2b has a phobia of dentists, hates them and has always hated them. but managed to get him to ring one today, (think the pain kinda forced him to ring aswell) got an emergency appointment for this evening at 7, that was ringing at 3pm so we were well impressed.

Anyway long story short, h2b went in, came out 45 mins later to say that he had got his wisdom tooth removed as it had an abscess on it and was decaying!!! :yikes2 :yikes2 and it was beginning to affect the tooth next to it. He now also has to get a root canal done in 2 weeks so that he doesnt get anymore infections!

Wedding account has taken a huge hit to pay for all this as unfortunately h2b doesnt have health insurance to cover the extraction. But good news, h2b has found a dentist he likes :yeah :bounce so he has now said that he will go more regularly to the dentist, especially for a clean as hasnt been to the dentist for 5 years and his abscess is a direct result of not having an hygenist clean his teeth for years.

Just wanted to share the story as felt it was quite ironic.

How are you today nowamrs? Yeh sounds like what h2b had, maybe you could ring the dentist on monday just to see what they say. H2b has neither a medical card or insurance and it is costing quite a bit to get it all sorted

He is far better now, was very groggy on thursday evening but fine yesterday and today and not wile pain, took neurofen on thursday night and yesterday but fine today. Just a bit of swelling, but no bruising and is back to himself aswell. Still not eating any real solids, but soft and mashed food and managed a good dinner today!

Is it claim it back on PRSI asbabe?

im hijacking the thread missies,

paid a visit to a dentist today, one that I dont usually go to.

Turns out I have an abscess on top molar so on antibiotics now to heal it, but he said that most likely ill need a root canal on that tooth in the near future.

He also said I defo need an extraction on the lower wisdom tooth (pain that woke me at 3am last night) I can feel it twisting my front teeth.

all this costing me 700 euro :yikes2 i have no insurance nothing.....dont think I can afford any of it :(

Ha Koko - know how you feel, costing us over €1000 to get h2b sorted out - dentist fees, xray fee, extraction fee, root canal and crown!!!

I must check that, the only thing is h2b doesnt work as he is in college and I am paying the fee, just wondering if that will affect it?? Will check it out anyway, thanks.

It must be hard that your footing the bill, he will have to make it up to big time for that!

Thats a pity that you have to go on another anti-biotic, but hopefully that will settle everything enough to get the teeth removed.

The top teeth are no-where near as bad as lower teeth. It was my lower teeth that I had pain in after they were removed, its got to do with the teeth being set into the jaw bone!

@Koko - fink it would be best to talk to you tamara about getting your teeth out, you seem a bit too relax about just having one out, enjoy your good nights sleep!!!

@mrs20122be - No matter how hard it might be to extract the tooth if you are having re-occuring abcesses on it, it would need ot come out, once you have them once, you will always get them in the tooth. If you can afford it, try and get as knocked out as you can, if you can afford it, general anesthetic is brilliant, I was in and out in about 30 t 40 mins or so with 4 teeth out under g.a!! Hopefully you will be able to get some treatment done under the g.p card, if not it may be an idea to go private and see if somewhere will give you a payment plan to get them out.
