Tummy toning

Postby IRockedTheFrock » Wed Aug 03, 2011 11:59 pm

Has anyone got any tips or simple exercises that actually work I could do to tone up my tummy and thighs a bit? I can't manage anything too physical or strenuous due to a joint condition so that's why I'm finding it hard to keep fit . :(

Hi b2b123
Would your joints be able for something like Yoga or Pilates? Might be worth a try.

Pilates are great but if you have joint problems maybe have one or two sessions with a physio and get them to go through what type of exercises you're able for. I have back problems and was given loads of pilates to suit me. Depending on what type of joint problems you have would depend on what type of exercise you need so one or two sessions with the physio would make sure you're not doing the wrong thing for you.

I got this one on a website and it's very simple and can be done at your desk! You could do it at home in sets, you could pulse for a hundred, rest and repeat twice. The key is to hold your tummy in and far as you can and when breathing out, do it hard, through pursed lips. (that's what they do in Pilates)

Abdomen: Contract your abdominal and gluteal muscles, hold them there for a few seconds, then release. Repeat this for every few minutes all day long while you are working at your desk. You can also perform Kegels (pelvic floor exercises) while sitting.

Yeah, just aim to keep your belly button as close to your spine as possible. Your abs are doing 100% of the work in this one so the should be effective.
