weight gain

Postby mrsfa2b » Fri Sep 30, 2011 6:17 pm

hi..
as the topic says...weight gain.
doing unislim. had lost 6.5lbs in two weeks, which is great. but this week i gained 1 lb, which in the whole scheme of things is not huge. but i had been exercising all week and eating fairly well.
anyway the lady said cut down on the exercising. only exercise every other day. she said that i'm gaining musle and that's why i'm up1lb this week.
sorry this is getting very rambly.
basically, i'm not sure if i believe her... would exercising every other day help ya loose weight? Does musle weigh more than fat?
any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Hey hey!
I'm once again back on the weight watchers wagon as of yesterday!!(Had lost weight before but unfortunately didn't keep it off!! grrr!!)
Anywho... used to find weeks that i was super good, eating really well, exercising loads I would sometimes be really disappointed come weigh in.... but then the following week when i wasn't so good i would have major weight loss.... Dont know if it was just taking the extra time to show or because muscle weighs more. I have heard that although muscle weighs more you would have to be a bodybuilder for it to actually make a difference to your weight!

i think that whole your gaining muscle thing is a load of crap !!! they told me that before and i just think its a cop out because they dnt no what to say lol. but that happens its happened to me loads where i would be hard at it all week and id be up, but sometimes the body takes longer than a week to let go of the fat especially with women, for instance 2 weeks before my period i start gaining and then boom the day i get it im down 5 to 6 lbs. for whatever reason are bodies aren't 2 predictable so if i were you i would just get on with it and try not get 2 disappointing because if you have been sticking to the plan and exercising and you continue to do so you will notice at next weeks weigh in. to avoid failing try and not get disappointing at gaining because it will happen some weeks but keep at it and it will be worth it. if you are in doubt about the muscle thing i would recommend measuring yourself because if you gain muscle and dont lose fat you should have lost inches. also drink lots of water because it flushes you out and will minimise water retention and also help your body rid of everything !! i rememebr working my ass off and for 3 weeks straight i was up then the same and then up another lb, then the following week i was down 9lbs, so it just goes to show the body can act strange!!! you have done very well so far so keep it up and dnt let the hurdles get you down :)

I'm not an expert but when I first started doing the 30 day shred I didn't lose any weight for the first two weeks or so and someone told me that as you start to exercise more you gain a little more muscle so instead I decided to measure myself. My clothes definitely felt looser and I practically dropped a dress size but I wasn't seeing it on the scales. After the second week I started to see the difference in the scales.

I have a friend who sticks by this rule..........2 to maintain and 3 to gain. Meaning exercise twice a week and it helps maintain your weight and exercise three times a week helps you to loose weight. It works for her.

Hope this helps.

Muscle weighs twice as much as fat. So although you may be the same weight or even heavier than last week, if you have been following the diet, you will still be losing inches. That is what you need to be worried about, and not focus so much on weight. How you look and feel is what is important and how your clothes feel on you. A diet and exercise will make you healthier, and not just make you lose weight, so you are doing it correctly and keep going! :highfive

I lost a fair bit in WW before the wedding and I would never have thought it but the last few pounds were dropped by cutting back on the exercise.... also try a variety of exercises, maybe a different class or some hill walking.. If you continue to do the same exerice all the time your body just exoects it (if that makes sense)....

I totally agreed with summerbride. I like all tips and suggestions given by her. I have no idea about that how to gain weight. take exercise twice a day and join a gym.

hi girls,

as previously mentioned muscle is three and a half times heavier than fat. Its because muscle is more dense that fat. After doing a bodypump class I weighed myself and went up, so its true. I weighed again the same time next day with no toning and the weight was down again.

If toning is part of your weight loss program, then don't go by the weighing scales, go by your waist and measuring tape/clothes/mirror. Otherwise you will go nuts. Also, weigh in same time each week and the same day and consider that you could add on six pounds if you are pre-menstrual.

Thanks a million for that! I've been doing a good bit of toning exercises esp for my arms/upper body and my stomach for the last month-6 weeks, (about 15 - 30 mins almost every day, as well as 30 mins cardio) and my clothes feel looser, i look a bit more toned (i think) and my waist measurement seems to be around the same or down slightly, yet i seem to be a couple of pounds heavier! Hopefully that might explain it a bit!

Hey Misses, Im currently doing WW and this will be my second time doing it like other misses, i lost nearly stone and half but didnt manage to keep it off :nobadtalk

But i find the same as the other misses, the week that i am very rigid to eating and exercising is the week that i am either up or stay the same, its very frustrating but im going to continue, but like the leader says dont over do the exercise as muscle is heavier than fat and this could be the problem, and yes our bodies are all very different but i think the our monthly cycle has alot to answer for on the scales

Anyway dont give up hope stick at it and it all be worth it you will be a :smileybride
