Weight Loss Diary/Help > tips/advice needed!

Postby Izzabella » Tue Aug 23, 2011 7:05 pm

Hola Chiquitas!!

I am getting wed in 8 months and 8 days eeeek!!
I currently weigh in at 178 lbs (12 stone 10 lbs) dress size 16/18 and would ideally like to lose 2 - 3 stone.

My fall down is takeaways and carbs. I dont eat much in the a.m and rather eat in the evening. Main meal being about 4pm.

I have an exercise bike which I would (i.e will once Ive kick started this new regime) use for 30 mins an evening plus I would also do 10 mins of arm weights and jumping around like a loon followed by 50 sit ups which I think Im doing wrong. My tummy needs most work.

The plan is new diet and strict enforcement of exercise routine everyday.

And so my questions are:::
Do you think my goal is realisitic?
What would you recommend as regards a meal/diet plan to follow?
Any advice regarding good dvds that would help tone my tum?
Please offer any advice / tips that you think will help!

My weight pees me off and I've vowed to lose weigh as after a trip dress looking I couldnt get a size 16 or 18 to close and depression hit home big time.

oh im in similar situation im a size 16 and the dress shopping is a nightmare but you should know the dresses are made seriously small a 16 wedding dress is really only a 12.
as for the weight loss it can be done but its going to require a lot of will power i had originally said i want to lose 3 stone but ive decided 2 will be great. im doing a spin class and zumba followed by the gym. as for dvds im doing the 30 day shred with jillian michaels and its really good its a 20 min work out that includes all sit ups and weights and cardio.
as for diet try to limit the carbs i know how hard it is im pretty much a serial carb eater but ive started bringing fruit salad to snack on or salad for lunch and i do lots of stir fry with very little rice but lots of veg.

Hi Izzabella. I think it is definitely achievable. My advice would be to eat a good breakfast. Eggs are great, with some brown bread and some fruit and yogurt. It takes a while to get used to eating so much in the morning but you will feel great and if you have a healthy lunch you will not be that hungry come evening time. Have a small snack in between meals, handful of nuts, piece of fruit. You should eat every two hours this speeds up your metabolism. Also do not eat 3 hours before you go to bed. In regards to exercise. I agree with other posts in regards to classes they are great for motivation and you will definitely see a difference after a few weeks! Hope this helps a wee bit!

Hey hon, its definately achievable.

I agree re jillian micheals 30 day shread dvd - she is a bitch, but its great.

Rather than a strict diet or meal plan, try using myfitnesspal.com for logging your calories and exercise. Its great and its free, you put in your stats and it tells you how many calories you should be consuming and what you earn with your exercise. It also breaks down what you have between carbs, protein and fat. It might help to keep you on track. I find I'm less likely to stick that second biccie in my gob when I have to log it!

Hi ladies.
Thanks for the tips and motivation.
Caroline how soul destroying is that!? Although a friend recently said similar to me, her friend who is a 16 wore a size 22 wedding dress. How nasty, you'd imagine they'd mark the size down to give you that feel good factor.
Lol @ jillian micheals being a bitch. Shes been ordered from amazon so I expect her to be making me sweat from next week! I also ordered the dukan diet book cause its sounds good.
We have a party this weekend so im going to knuckle down properly from next week although im reducing portion size this week and doing well so far. I'll gladly go teetotal which I think really helps. Its all such a drag, wouldnt it be lovely if someone could wave a magic wand but I know once I start seeing a difference the hard work will be worth it all.
I'll weigh in over the weekend and thanks again.

Just also maybe try measure your waist/hips/bust measurements to track yourself also as i've found the pounds are inclind to fluctuate depending on the time of day/month etc etc and it can be a bit disheartening if you've worked hard and it's not moving on the scales!
I lost a couple of stone a few years ago in about 5 months so it's def do-able, cos i'm terrible at sticking to diets!!I did it by cutting down my portion sizes, cutting down bread and eating brown bread instead of white, exercising most days for 30 mins to an hour (just walking or whatever some days, gym then or whatever other days) and eating very little sweets, fried stuff or anything like that. I think the logging what you eat def helps too!
Also are wedding dresses really sized that small? Feck, i have mine bought and it does fit, but it's a canadian size ten, which i think is a 12-14 here. Does that mean it's really a 6 or 8 or something?! Thank god it's a corset back and can be loosened!!!

its true! im a 14 or small 16, when I had measurements taken at dress makers they were the same as they are if I'm buying clothes, but the equated to a size 20 wedding dress!!!!! I was shocked. I am determined to cut the tag off the dress so no-one sees! but just remember to ignore whatever size they order it in, its just because dress makers are horribly cruel!

I know US and id say canadian too are a size or two smaller then what you would take in UK sizes e.g if im a uk 16 I would take a us 12-14.
Ive gotten a dress from monsoon. Im just not sure its me and as usual it swamps me on the shoulderd/boobs and isnt tight but doesnt sit great on my tummy. I can sell it so im still dress window shopping. I think if it was the right dress i'd be sure but im not so i'll keep looking.

Can I ask where you got the canadian dress? Thanks

Hi Izzabella

I got the dress in a bridal shop sample sale, it's a canadian based designer (alfred sung) so like i said there i think it's a canadian size ten, so a think it would be around a 12-14 uk. I'm usually around a 10-12 here in a dress, so the sizing seems about right!
I think you can get those dresses in a few different bridal shops, but the one i got it in was Eden Bridal, they're based in Wexford. I see you're in south east as well, so might be worth a look!

Don't worry, keep at it, you'll get there! That's great you're toning up tho, that in itself makes a big difference with clothes and stuff! :clapper
I find the eating veg hard myself, i'd love to be one of those people who can sit down and enjoy a plate of only veg!
