Wisdom teeth HELP

Postby koko » Tue May 03, 2011 11:14 am

Aw missies need a bit of advice!

Ok so I suffer badly with my teeth anyway so I have everything from rootcanals to extractions etc. But for the last two weeks I'm in constant agony with my wisdom tooth, usually this goes away but there is no sign of it letting up. A couple of years ago my dentist told me my wisdom teeth are my saving grace look after them so she gave me the impression not to have them extracted, but there's no room in my goddam mouth for it. Firstly how much is it to get extracted as I'm broke but I can't continue like this on the lead up to the wedding  I'm taking pain killers but don't want to live on them

Hey Koko I got 2 of my wisdom teeth out last November and have to say I'd rather have battled on with the pain than get them out!! Everyone is different though so mine was worst case scenario. Was out of work for about 2 weeks cos was in ribbons, couldnt eat, looked like I'd been beaten about the face and got an infection in the wound twice!!

The only good thing out of all of it was that I lost half a stone from not being able to eat

I agree with mrsjudgeto be though. Try a different dentist cos each one tells you something different. I kind of felt that mine was a money grabbing b*stard but luckily I was covered so went ahead!!

I'm prob scaring the sh*t out of you now...sorry hun!! Try rubbing dispirin into your gum for the pain :fingerscrossed

Ah nutty netta I appreciate your honesty I really do. I don't want to get mine removed as I'm trying to hold on to as much teeth as possible but I do like the sound of losing weight this could be a plus lol, but I don't want to go to a different dentist as I have a phobia and wouldn't go to a dentist for years hence why my teeth ate rotten now. She is so nice it's just the effort I go to the north as it works out a bit cheaper so.

I'm taking ponstan at the moment hoping that it's just a temporary pain.

Well thats it-my pain was on and off for couple of months but was bearable. The only reason I had such a disaster was cos one of the tooth taken out hadnt even come up from the gum yet so they had a right aul root around to get it out and thats why I was black and blue

Sorry now me waffling on about it and you with a phobia of dentists. I've really put the sh*ts up ya :yikes2 Sorry hun ;)

Re: Wisdom teeth HELP

Ive had all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out a year and a half ago, I didnt have room for the coming up and were pushing other teeth out of place as they were coming up, but I would have pain every now and then with them, not terribly unbearable most of the time, but that annoying pain that just doesnt go away. My dentist didnt want to take them out as said I should let them come up and see what happens, so I did for another year, went back to the dentist and had a new dentist as the other one had left, and explained it to her, she took x-rays and said that couldnt take them out as too close to root would have to leave them in. Went back to her again around this time 2 years ago and said that pain was bugging me, was getting worse and that my other teeth were visibly starting to move on my lower jaw as I used to have quite straight teeth. She referred me to a dental surgeon in Maynooth to get them all out in one go as she realised that I would have more bother with them coming up that good they would do me and most likely I would have to get them out at some stage anyway.

Anyway very long winded, but just wanted to show you that I went through the mill a bit trying to get my wisdom teeth out. My wisdom teeth extraction wasnt as bad as nuttynetta, I went under general anesthic (sp) to get them out, i.e was sleeping, Was quite tender and couldnt eat solids for about a week or so but other than that I was fine. He gave me a prescription for painkillers but I managed fine on nureofen. Had a bit of a pain in one side for a few weeks afterwards, but that side was slower to heal than the others. Even though 2 of my wisdom teeth hadnt cut through and they had to cut into my gum, I didnt suffer any bruising, cheeks were a bit swollen, but I was back at college that monday (operation was friday) and even sat a college exam on the Tuesday.

I went under VHI for mine so not sure exactly how much it cost though had to pay a consultant fee and something else but was only a few hunderd euro, but I do know going under general anesthic was more expensive than everything being numbed.

If you want I can tell you the name of the dentist and the surgery that went to in Maynooth, the dentist goes to a few hospitals/clinics around the country so you may not have to travel to maynooth.

I had all four out at the same time. It was when I was still in college and living at home, so fortunately, I didn't have to worry too much about the cost - was still on parents' insurance.

Had it done under general anaesthetic in the morning, out of hospital by lunchtime, back to work within two days. Not a bother on me!

Just wanted to let you know it's not all horrible!

I ve huge fear of the dentist even though mine is very nice and gentle but it still hasnt cured my fear.. For 4 yrs I put up with the pain of 4 wisdom teeth coming up and pushing my bottom teeth out of line- and still I wouldnt go ... I eventually caved when I almost over dosed on pain killers! Took nurofen followed by nurofen plus... Had the surgery to remove them and it was fine honestly .. Was a bit sore but nothing compared to the pain I endured for almost 4 yrs . My face was a bit bruised too and I was drinking smoothies for a couple of days..
