Hi! Just got engaged last Fri and dont know where to start! We are together twelve years so we dont want to be ages engaged but how long in general should you give to save etc. June 2013 seems like way too far away so maybe Sept. 2012? All I am definate on is that we want to go abroad. Any help/ advice is much appreciated

We just got married in Lanzarote last month, can't recommend it enough, I'd a completely stress free week and the morning of the wedding was so relaxing bcos my planner nd team were running around. We used Lanzarote Weddings, they are fantastic. We had our ceremony & reception in the iberostar in puerto calero and it was out of this world. I left work to do a course last year, and so to tide me over, I was able to save almost €5000 in about 10 months. Still managed to go out with friends, have dinner out, etc, and I was making about €1600 before tax each month. I had my bank set up a savings account which automatically took an amount from my current account weekly. This way, I didnt miss it.

To be fair, I also didnt buy any new clothes for a while, we shop at Aldi anyway, and when out I tend to have 2-3 drinks max. But thats better for you anyway (and the waistline).

So give it a shot, there are so many things you can cut back on and watching the savings grow is satisfying.

I have found the wedding abroad forum brilliant already, have gotten loads of ideas from it. Really excited but a bit scared at the same time Ball park figure how much do you reckon you would need for a lanzarote wedding? I was half thinking of looking around for a cheaper alternative but I just think I always had my heart set on it.
