Hey everyone!

Recently engaged, don't know where to start? C'mon in and say hello to the other Missies...

Hey everyone!

Postby MATISSE13 » Wed Mar 02, 2011 5:55 am

Hey everyone! My name is Matisse and I'm new to the site. My fiance and I are getting married on June 1, 2012 in Ireland (He's Irish and I'm Canadian). I thought this forum would help me with planning from Canada and to get insight on any Irish traditions there are for weddings. I'm super excited about the wedding planning. I just finished up our wedding website. If you want to check it out, go to matissehamel.com/weddings

Cheers!

Wow, thank you for all the lovely replies ladies. And I kind of am finding it hard to plan from Canada. We got the "wedding in a box" that was offered by Portmarnock, but we went with our own photographer (a friend of my FH) and our own centerpieces (I have a different vision than what was offered in the package). Since I'm not in Ireland, I had to run around at Christmas looking into florist shops to see if there were places that would be able to accommodate my vision. Luckily we found a couple in my FH's hometown of Balbriggan, so I think I'm good for that. The issue we are having now is finding an officiant. Any suggestions?

I assume you mean a registrar??
If so you need to meet with them face to face a minimum of 3 months before your big day!
you prob need to ring minimum of 6 months before to try organise a date in time to meet the registrar as they need the date you meet to be no sooner than 3 months before and often there is a wait to meet them! Esp in Dublin (where H2b and I met the registrar!)

If you are having a church wedding (Roman catholic, unsure of others)you STILL need to meet the above critera AND meet the priest, also do a pre-marriage course and letters of freedom, I'm sure there is more you need - I'm having Civil Ceremony so unsure of everything required in a church wedding

I found it really easy to do it with Wordpress. You just pick a theme and go from there. I see you are getting married so soon! CONGRATS LOVE!

That is good to know. How did you hear about your registrar? Were you referred to him/her? We are having a civil ceremony.

Here it is done by the state . . . you have to go to the one in your local area.
Not a company - Here weddings are formal and alot of paperwork.
The only types of weddings are either by the priest or registrar supplied by the state
