Hi all, just joined

Postby thestellaone » Thu Aug 25, 2011 2:09 pm

Engaged 5 yrs next month, so we think its time to start planning and setting a date :clapper
I would love to set date for next year but bit afraid so we might settle for 2013 which seems like years away!!
I have been searching for venues online were from Kildare but I cant stop looking at Trim Castle Hotel, has anyone any feedback on this venue? Would it be a bit far for guests to travel?? I want something different, we have been to possibly every venue around kildare for friends weddings. But im just afraid it would put pressure on them??
Originally I wanted to bring a handful to vegas haha but my brother married a girl from texas this summer and he was missing alot of his close friends due to work and funds and it made us realise we didnt want that.
I'v rambled on long enough
Look forward to chatting with you all x

Hi and welcome!

Good luck with setting the date and the planning process!

I can't offer much info about trim either except to say that if it's a venue you really like ring them up, make an appointment explain your case (from Kildare a lot of guests will need to travel and stay over) see what the best deal is they can offer you, and see what alternative accommodation is close by for guests. You'll know when you see it in person if you want it or not, it will also give you an idea of what dates are available for 2013.... There really is no harm in looking... You can make a weekend of it for you and h2b!!!

How about asking a few friends/family their opinion on travelling, see what the general vibe is if you are concerned about the distance. Then again if you go and see the venue and thats what your heart desires then go for it. You can always say to people 'you cant complain its closer than vegas'

Hi! engaged 3 years and the same, starting to plan now but will have to settle for 2013 aswell. We were looking at Trim Castle aswell!Live in Kilcock. Trim Castle is FAB!!! but was at the afters of a wedding there 2 weeks ago. the place is amazing but apparently the meal took over 3 hours and a lot of the food came out cold and service was unnesecarily. Now i dont know how exagerated that is but the bride and groom had a fab day and loved the place. Would love to hear about others in Trim Castle in the hope that it was a once off!!!

Missies I am super excited have set the date for 6th September 2012 :clapper :clapper
So now the fun begins to get venue booked asap. I have thought about Trim and were going to have venue closer to home especially when were getting married on a thursday so people have to book off work and then it will cost em to book in somewhere if they want to stay over etc..
Found a great offer in the Dolmen Hotel in Carlow, has anyone had a look. It seems a bit to good to be true. They are offering an all inclusive package or I was looking at the Gold package 3800 for 100 people but the amount of stuff added in is crazy???
Were looking at around 230 guests thats hopefully max H2B family is big! :yikes2
But it does look good so thats going to be my first port of call.

Hiya!

Im a Trim Castle Bride! Yay! & Im getting married on a Thursday too. At Trim Castle only certain thursdays are classed as midweek ie off peak months. We're paying weekend rates, thats a bug bearer, our wedding is in may! anyway, We're getting married in the church next door, we'll have a bus to pick up guests to bring them down to trim & bring them home that night if theyre not staying. We hadnt originally planned to have a bus, didnt think we could afford it but it really wasnt as expensive as we thought. We live in Dublin the bus will be making 3 stops en route and its €450 return. Other than the actual hotel there are loads of guesthouses or hotels in trim that are cheap enough to stay over in. The castle arch & brogans are two that come to mind. The hotel really is stunning! The photo opportunities are amazing. Room is 'wow' and everything just flows. the pre reception room is private, and its literally next to the reception room through a little hall, the smoking area is a balcony in the main room so no one goes has to leave.

I was only in the dolmen for a christening , but Im not joking it was like a mini wedding it was nice the food was only ok , but the staff were lovely. It feels alot older than Trim , like trim is very modern in a way & the dolmen not so much but its nice & just looked at the offer there its amazing.
