how long to realistically plan the big day?

Postby puddy2shoes » Fri Aug 19, 2011 4:26 pm

Hi Everyone

I have just got engaged and we have been together so long (12 years) before getting engaged that i really dont feel like dragging out the whole planning stage. we are meeting with the priest at the weekend to arrange dates and i was wondering how long you realistically need to plan a wedding (considering ive been planning the big day in my head for years now ;) )

Congrats!! Oh I'm the exact same as you. I got engaged in February after a 10 year relationship and booked the church and hotel within the week. I would have had the wedding this year (October) only my brother is getting married in September and I couldn't do it the same year, my parents would kill me. Anyhu I suppose it depends on what type of wedding you want. Also some bands/suppliers etc can be booked out a year or two in advance but you'll always find something if you try hard enough. We're getting married next March so altogether we have the year to plan and I've all the big stuff booked already so getting started on a few more things. It's totally doable if you set your mind to it.

Thanks!

I am kinda worried bout arranging some stuff in a short time-mainly the dress and the band dor the reception.ive already talked to the hotel i want and they have decent availability jan-march 2012 so im not too worried about the venue.i guess il know in a week or two if its going2be too much to get everything sorted by then and if it is put it off til october or november 2012. but id love to get married in jan on our existing anniversary.

I think it can all be done in 6 months if you know what you want!! the only problem with planning things in a short space of time is possibly not getting a venue/band/church that you had your heart set on.. but when you have a year or so you find that once you book the church and venue, there isnt much to do for a few months.

We are together 9yrs so didn't want a long engagement
Good luck planning

I thikn you'll also get better prices and be better off haggling with hotels cause lots of them have availability for the near future :) haggle, haggle, haggle!!!

Absolutely you can do it in that time frame. Great start that they have your dates! You'll need to be organised, delegate like crazy and may need to compromise a bit.

Good luck and lots of tips here.

Id say 6 months is loads of time to plan it, your only thing would be getting certain suppliers. If your relaxed about who you get Id say no hassle with 6 months. Go for it.

Congratulations on your engagement!! We were also together 12 years when we got engaged and we would have pushed for sooner but money wouldnt allow for it unfortunately. If you have the budget you think you'll need then I would say fire away! I know after 12 years both are parents wanted us to get a move on

6-7 months is plenty of time, in fact you have more bargaining power because if the supplier has those dates free they are less likely to fill them so are more interested in your wedding! ;) I had just over 7 months but booked most things in 1 day!
