New to this site & dilemma!

Postby tigerlily » Wed Aug 31, 2011 3:28 pm

Hi all well new to here and need to get the ball rolling on this planning business!! Going to the wedding fair in RDS so that's a start! :) My big dilemma is that I always liked the idea of a wedding abroad but are many people doing this these days? Recession etc? I know there's pros and cons to both. Any feedback/thoughts welcome!

Welcome, and congrats

We also really considered abroad, but it all depends on who you want at your wedding, my nan is in her eighties and would not be able to go abroad and I cannot think about my wedding without her, but on the other hand it will cut numbers for you as you would not have to invite aunts and uncles you haven't seen in years etc. Have a look at venues in ireland too and weigh up the costs as you still need flights over, still have to buy dresses, hire suits etc

Enjoy the weekend

all depends really. My sister got married abroad and she definitely not more for her money but it cost the rest of us a bloody fortune!! Good friends of ours are getting married in Barcelona this September and we would love to go but we can't afford it plus we are trying to save all our holidays for our own honeymoon at the end of the year. They are getting a lot of cancellations cuz no body can afford to go

welcome to the site and congrats!!
we were goin to get married abroad too but after looking into it we realised it would actually work out cheaper on us (and our guests) to stay in ireland. it all depends on whats important to you and what you really want. Getting married abroad mite not work out that much cheaper, a lot of ur guests mite not be able to afford to go and you also wont have as much control in the planning of the day itself. on the upside your pretty much guranteed nice weather for it :D have you looked into places or checked out prices?

Welcome! :bluewave

I also priced getting married abroad, and it was cheaper on the whole cheaper to get married in Ireland for a wedding of the same size. It depends on what you want really. You do sacrifice guests on weddings abroad, as a lot of people won't be able to make it. If you are ok with that, then you get the added bonus of already being somewhere that you can honeymoon. It just depends on your priorities! Good luck! :highfive

it really depends on what kind of wedding that the two of you would like.As the other posters have said, there are pros and cons to a wedding both here and abroad!

congrates on your engagement!!

We had Malta booked for our wedding and deposit paid. turned out none of our family and friends were able to afford to come and we thought it was more important to have our family so we decided to cancel Malta. We lost our deposit, but we didnt mind. maybe ask around and get an idea if people would be able to go abroad and then you could decided. Either way enjoy all the wedding planning regardless if it is here and abroad xx

Hi hi. Im new too. my brother got Married in Spain. He lives there and got SSSSSSOOOOO much value for money. The wedding they had they wouldve spent at least twice what they did here, however as said before its quiet expensive for Guests. Think it all depends on what you want and options for guests eg they could make it into a holiday. We are from Kildare and thinking of going to Sligo/Mayo for ours but we are having quiet a big wedding and decided it was too much for guests as they would have to stay at least 2 nights.
Enjoy the planning! I cant wait to get started!
