Newbie! Wanting to get married in Trinity?

Postby Queenie » Mon May 02, 2011 12:19 pm

Hello missies!

Just got engaged a week ago. Currently living in North of England but as myself and the H2be are both from Ireland and both went to Trinity we'd really like to get married there. I think you can have an ecumenical service though I really don't know much about it. Does anyone know anyone who got married in Trinity's chapel? Or know anything about it? They give very little info on the website...

Any advice / stories would be appreciated!

Thanks

xx

I also can't help, but good luck with everything and hopefully you will be able to sort something out. Have you tried calling Trinity and asking what the situation is with their services? Have fun planning! :clapper

Hiya,
I've been a guest at weddings here both last year and the year before. They were fab. The rule is if you wanna get married there one of you have to have Graduated from Trinity within the last 10 years! Outside that and you can't use the chapel.
Fantastic for photos. I think you can have any type of service there too.

Hi,

I'm getting married these this year. We're having a Catholic service, but without communion, as H2B and his family are Anglican. While this is kind of an ecumenical service, in order for a church wedding to be legally recognised here, you have to specify which religion the marriage rites will be from - what this means is that you can use bits from different religions during the service, but when it comes to the I do's, you have to choose one religion or the other.

The best way to get information is to contact the chaplain relevant to your own religion. They're all very friendly, and are well used to getting enquiries. Before they'll consider a booking to be confirmed, you have to meet with the relevant chaplains (so we had to meet with two chaplains, as we're from different religions). They're not going to grill you about your knowledge of religion, they just want to make sure that you know what's involved.

The cost of hiring the church is €500. They also have an organist who you have to pay, whether you use him/her or not, which is another €225. The chaplains don't generally celebrate the marriage ceremonies, you're expected to bring your own priest (they might make an exception because you're both living in a different country). They have pretty strict rules about where you can have flowers, decorations, etc. Also, they only allow weddings at 11.30am and 2pm, and they close for July and the Christmas holidays. As you'd expect, it books up quickly, especially the 2pm slot on Saturdays (we're getting married on a Friday cos the Saturday was booked well over a year in advance).

If I can find it, I'll try posting the info document that they sent me.
