Newly engaged in Cork!

Postby AnCiotog » Mon Oct 24, 2011 10:56 am

Hi guys, I'm officially a bride to be since Saturday evening when my fabulous hubby to be proposed to me in Gougane Barra in West Cork. We've not got the ring yet, just wondering if any of you guys had ideas on where to get good value on one? I've heard Askoy's (maybe Aksoy's) in Patrick Street is good? I'm practical, and so is he, and I don't think expensive rings are me! I know what I want, but I'm hoping to get it a little cheaper if I go somewhere that's not too outrageously priced. We're building a house and planning the big day too so I want to have time to enjoy all of it without having a heart attack about money! I can't wait to be Mrs. O'Driscoll, it's so so exciting!

Thanks guys. Jeez, I wish I could just spill the news to everyone. I can't even think about work today! I keep wanting to say it to everyone. We did tell our families though, I couldn't keep it in as I'm a twin and I really wanted to tell her. I obviously wanted to tell my parents too. We've come through an awful lot of separations and difficult times over a 13 year period to get to this point. We only got back together last October and we both knew this time it was make or break. Thankfully it was make, and there wasn't the slightest hesitation when he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. Oh I'm so excited! I was so worried about the cost of it all and the planning this morning when i got up, but now I don't care. I feel so happy I'm marrying the man I've always known was the one for me!!

Congrats hun!!! :hug2
I'm in Cork too!!! Askoy's can be very expensive, again, depending on what kind of ring you want. I got mine in Nevilles in Blackpool Shopping Centre and the girls there are brilliant to deal with. Don't be pressurised by any of the staff no matter what jewellers you go to.....take your time and enjoy the process.
Enjoy the wedding planning and the madness that goes with it!!!! :crazynut :bounce :crazy :justmarried

I went for a quick look around today with my bridesmaid, my twin, with my h2b's permission (if that's the right word!) so that my h2b and I have an idea when we go around tomorrow by ourselves. I've to work in the morning so I wanted to have a recce done, also wanted to enjoy it rather than having to tick jewellers off the list. I did see one in Aksoy's but it's a bit blingy, and more expensive. you're right. Hilsers and Keanes both have ones I like, as did Mona's Antiques so h2b and I will have a better idea tomorrow. Might check out Nevilles too, but I'm going to try to keep the price as low as I can. I do want a ring I love, but I don't see the point in throwing away valuable money just so people can see how much was paid for it. I love my future husband, he's the best diamond I could have, and he's priceless!

Welcome to the crazy world of wedding planning.

I got my ring in Aksoys in Ballincollig they will make any of their rings with either bigger or smaller diamonds or you can totally change a ring you've seen. The ring i pick had two diamonds I wanted them slightly bigger & it took 3 weeks to make. They were so nice they let me borrow the shop model for the weekend so i could show all my family & friends.

I went back for my wedding band as i had to get it moulded to fit my e-ring & again it turned out fab.
