Dancing hen party

Postby cant_stop_smiling » Sun Jan 08, 2012 10:49 pm

Hi girls,

I'm just wondering have any of you been on a hen where you all learn a dance? I love dancing myself but my bridesmaids are very reluctant to do this. I'm not a big drinker though and I love the thought of doing something different. Dont get me wrong, we'll still have a big night out too. I'd love to hear your experiences...

Thanks!

Hi,

I organised a Hen last year where we did Burlesque dancing for the activity.
Let me give you some pointers as it was a great idea but did not work out so well for us.

1) absolutely make sure that your venue for the class is suitable. We got an instructor to go to the house we were all staying in & I did not know just how much movement was involved - it was a lot. Although I had been assured that a medium sized room would be enough. The room was far too small for dancing so only half of the girls could fit in the room. The other half had to wait outside & so we took turns. - totally runined the fun as folk lost interest then.
2) be sure what the content of the class is. We thought it would be showing us some seperate easy simple moves and then use those moves to create a simple & short little dance that would be easy to remember. However when the instructor arrived she just went ahead & tried to teach us a whole dance from start to finish - not easy and frustrating as we all got lost in the steps ! :?
3) make sure your instructor is up for a laugh ! ours just wanted to get paid. !!
4) be sure that any props the instructor needs is readily available and there is one for everyone. Our instuctor taught us a dance that involved dancing around a chair. We luckily had the chairs from the Kitchen table, but not enough for everyone. They had tall backs and were not very suitable so were awkward to dance around. The instructor just assumed we would have the perfect chairs and one for everyone ??!! :furious

However, everyone said at the Hen is was a laugh - it just didnt work out so well for us..!
Have fun
