EJ09s hen report

Postby MrsEL10 » Mon Nov 29, 2010 10:26 pm

My hen night was on Saturday. This is going to be a long one! Hope you manage to get to the end of it!!

I had the alarm set in the morning so I would be up on time for the train. Got up and saw what I thought to be frost on the Velux window. I said to h2b it is frosty outside and he said I think it is snow so I ran to the front window in the bedroom and the place was white – covered in snow. All I could do was laugh. H2b was driving me to the train station and I was meeting my sister in law there. There was only the two of us travelling from Carlow. We got to the train station OK – thank God he was driving and I wasn’t. There was a big queue for the tickets so I queued and got my ticket, the train came as I was at the top of the queue. The train is in two different sections so I had to ring my sister in law to see which half of the train she was in – I found her anyway.

We had to change in Kildare to get on the Dublin to Galway train. We had to wait there for the next train. I was meeting some of my friends there. I was talking to my sister in law while we were waiting and this girl was asking us which train to get to Portlaoise and we were talking to her as one of my friends arrived. She gave me a hug and then my sister in law and then hugged the other girl because she thought she was part of the group – it was so funny!! The other two arrived also. My cousin was travelling on the train from Dublin and she managed to keep two sets of four seats for us – it was great. So we got on the train and found my cousin. Another one of my friends joined us in Ballinasloe. The journey went really quickly with so many of us on it. There was no snow on the ground when we got to Galway.

We went straight to the Radisson where we had spa treatments booked. We were meeting a few more there. There was lunch included as part of most of the spa packages so we went for lunch first. My sister was a bit delayed with the snow and so was one of my friends but they joined us in the restaurant. A few of us even had some wine with the meal – it was lovely. There were ten of us altogether for lunch. Two of the girls headed off to the shops and the rest of headed over to the spa after lunch. We booked in with the spa and then headed up to the changing rooms which were on a different level.

We all got into our robes and slippers that were provided and then we got in the lift to go back to the spa. Someone pressed the wrong button for the lift so we pressed the right one and probably a few more. We ended up in the corridor of the first floor of the hotel – eight of us in the lift in our robes and slippers! There was a guy walking down the corridor so we started waving at him assuming that the lift would have moved by the time he got to us but the lift didn’t move!! The button started flashing and still no movement. One of the girls rang the emergency button but there was no sign of anyone coming so we said if we got out of the lift and tried to press the button the lift might work but still no movement. At this stage a few more men had passed and we were getting some funny looks!! We decided that it wasn’t going to work and no one was coming so we were trying to figure out another way to get to the spa. There was another lift at the other end of the corridor but that led to the hotel lobby – and then we would have had to walk across the car park to get to the spa – so we didn’t want to do that. One of the girls spotted an emergency exit so we said we would try that. I was afraid the alarm would go off when we opened the door but it didn’t thankfully. So we all went down the stairs – the ones that went first said it looked a bit dodgy so maybe we should go back – and the ones that were still near the top of the stairs tried the door we had gone through and it was locked – we couldn’t get back in!! So we tried banging on the door but no one there. So we were stuck. My cousin thankfully managed to get the door open at the bottom and we were out and only had to run to the door beside it to get back inside to the spa. It could only happen to us!!
So we made it to the spa eventually, after going down the stairs in the leisure centre. We were ready for our treatments by then. We went to the thermal suites while we were waiting – we had hoped to have more time there but with our delay we were called for treatments pretty soon after. I had a full body massage. I really needed it. I am all tensed up with the wedding plans. After my treatment I went back to the thermal suites for a few minutes before I headed off to get my hair blow-dried in the salon at the hotel. When we were leaving the lift still wasn’t working!!

My sister had her car with her so a few of us got a lift with her to the Harbour Hotel http://www.harbour.ie/ where we were staying. We had gotten wrong directions so ended up getting a bit lost but found it eventually. We checked in and headed up to the rooms. Three of the girls were meeting us there that hadn’t come to the spa. One of the girls couldn’t make it with the bad weather – she was trying to drive from Sligo but had to turn around and go back home. The hotel is lovely – highly recommend it. The girls all gathered in the room I was staying in. My bridesmaids had organised champagne and a box of Roses – they even brought plastic wine glasses. They brought me this Martini Glass http://www.henparty.ie/Shop/Gifts/Henpa ... Glass.aspx which I drank my champagne out of. It was lovely. We stayed there for a while chatting and then we decided that we better go and get ready. As I had my hair done all I had to do was get dressed. One of the girls is a make-up artist and I asked her would she mind doing my make-up and one of the other girls and she didn’t mind at all. Time just flew and before I knew it my sister was ringing me telling me that the taxi was here to bring us to the restaurant so I went knocking on the doors to get everyone to come down.

The hotel is very central and we could have walked to the restaurant but we were all wearing high heels so we said a taxi would be easier. The girls had organised a theme for the night. I was wearing my pink and black dress that I had bought in Sligo http://www.janenorman.co.uk/fcp/product ... olour=pink and all of the rest of the girls were wearing black dresses. We went to the restaurant in McSwiggans pub http://www.mcswiggans.com/ . We had to wait a little while for the table so we managed to get seats in the waiting area. The girls started giving me presents to unwrap. They had already given me a bride to be flashing tiara at my mini hen night and I was told to bring that with me. So I put that on. My first present was an L-plate bopper http://www.henparty.ie/Shop/Boppers/L-Plate-Bopper.aspx which I had to put on with my tiara – and they had also got these ones for all the girls http://www.henparty.ie/Shop/Boppers/Hen ... ppers.aspx. My second present was a big flashing badge which I had to pin onto my dress and they also got me a flashing garter which you could see flashing under my dress http://www.henparty.ie/Shop/Garter/Pink ... arter.aspx . We were called for the meal then and as we were passing one of the waitresses said to me are you the hen and I said to her is it that obvious!!

The girls had organised banners for behind the table. The meal was lovely – we all had starters and main courses and then tea and coffee and it was very reasonable – would recommend for anyone going on a hen to Galway. The presents continued during the meal. They got me some sexy lingerie, a candy G-string, a book on marriage in 1910 and a set of bride and groom rubber ducks http://www.henparty.ie/Shop/Gifts/Mr--- ... k-Set.aspx . They did a Mr & Mrs Quiz but hadn’t asked my h2b the answers but it was still a laugh. We stayed in the restaurant for ages.

We headed to Coyote Bar after the meal http://www.coyotes.ie/ . It is a great bar for a hen night. We got free champagne when we arrived – which I drank in my new glass! The music was brilliant all night and we danced all night. The girls had got me a dare card which I had to do. One dare was to dance with a bald guy – my sister was dragging me all over the bar to try and find a bald guy for me to dance with!! I also had to sing to a guy, get a kiss off a guy (was no shortage of kisses on the cheek all night!!), dance on a table – which we substituted with a podium. At one stage there were two guys dancing on the podium and my sister told me to go and dance with them which I did!! It was a great laugh and everyone got on well which was brilliant as it can be hard when you bring all different groups together.

We stayed in Coyotes all night and then headed back to the hotel. My feet were killing me after all the dancing so decided to get a taxi back. A few of the others had the same idea and followed us in a taxi. We went to the residents bar when we arrived back at the hotel. I was wrecked so didn’t stay that long – but I heard the next morning that two of the girls had joined another hen party and stayed up having a sing song until 6 in the morning! We all managed to make it down for a lovely breakfast in the morning before everyone headed their separate ways to go home. A few of them that had come on the train with us headed back on the earlier train but we couldn’t get a connecting train so we went on the three o’clock train. There was just myself and my sister in law. H2b collected us in Newbridge so we wouldn’t have to wait an hour for the train to Carlow.

It was a brilliant weekend. Hope you enjoyed the report and sorry it was so long!

I forgot to mention that people kept trying to take the boppers all night - at one stage someone took them off my head and managed to knock the tiara and the comb on it hit my nose and I have a mark on it now where the skin came off - hope it heals soon  H2b keeps teasing about it - asked was I in a fight
