Paying a photographers full amount day of wedding?

Postby annersok » Tue Dec 06, 2011 10:00 am

Hi

Our photographer has asked for a 20% deposite with the remaining fee to be paid on the day of the wedding. However it seems strange to me as i would have expected to pay a remaining amount say $100 upon receipt of my photos?? Maybe i am just being over cautious as he seems a very reputable photographer but without a contract (says his emails are the contract) i am wary that i have no comeback if i dont withhold funds.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

I am going to pay my photographer on the day of the wedding, only because he is a family friend and I just want to get it out of the way !!!! He won't be expecting it. I am not sure what other photographers stipulate

There is usually a contract i think from most photographers. In saying this I paid my photographer on the day. Then again my photographer wasn't that dear - i think if i was paying a lot i would rather hold some money back until you get the photos/cd/album!

Hi annersok

It's pretty normal to pay most of your suppliers the remaining amount due on or before your wedding day. However it's not very normal to not have a contract in place with your photographer as this is the only document you have to fall back on if god forbid anything was to go wrong.
Normally your contract would include all the terms of the agreement as well as the payment schedule so you know from the begining whats expected.
