Photographer and final payment

Hi there, just wondering when you all have/had to make final payment to photographer? Ours is looking for full settlement 6 weeks before wedding and wanted to check whether this is the norm or not. Thanks for your help!

Hiya We gave a deposit of 300euro when we booked him, we pay the rest of his fee on or before the wedding day and we pay for the album when we order what prints are to go in it. Hope this helps

We paid €400 deposit, will pay €600 on the day and then the remaining €400 when we receive all our photos! I wouldn't be comfortable to pay the full price 6 weeks in advance to be honest! But maybe that's just me!

Ours required payment 4weeks before the wedding - that's what te contract said. I was a week late when I did it and rang him up and he wasn't a bit worried about it. I think if I'd said to him I wanted to split the payment further he'd have been fine about it.

This arrangement seems like a good one. I paid our photographer in advance thinking it would be less hassle on the wedding day. Big mistake! 10 weeks married and no sign of pictures and no longer answering our emails. I'm just an inconvenience to him now.

Ya im with lilylou i would be happy to pay all before the day what if something happens or your not happy with the outcome of the pictures and if they have some money to get of you they will be quicker in replying to you after the wedding. Our photographer wants 300 euro deposit and 80% to be paid on the day or just before and the last 20% to be paid when collecting the photos

we paid 50 deposit with our photographer the balance is due on the day of the wedding and any extras we want we pay when we get them i was speaking to another bride who had him she had her album and stuff 2 weeks after the wedding

Hey. I wouldn't be comfortable paying full amount I at least seen some photos. We've paid €500 as a deposit and also for engagement photos. And we wont be paying the remaining €450 untill we get the template of the photo album after the wedding.

Agree with the other girls,i wouldn't be happy paying all before the day.Have you signed a contract?

Thanks for all your replies. I had a hunch it was a bit out of kilter with what other photographers do to be honest. Just checked my contract and unfortunately it does say the balance is to be paid not later than 30 days before the wedding, so might have less negotiating power - kicking myself I didn't spot that when I first signed. I think I'll go back to him anyway and say I'm not comfortable paying the whole lot now and see whether he will be flexible. Will let you all know how I get on!
