Alternative Ideas for Afters Entertainment

Postby MsBBE » Thu Mar 11, 2010 6:14 pm

Hey Girlies,

My guy & I are thinking of going for a comedian rather than a band (still having a DJ - he had organised the DJ from the pub we met who was on the night we met to do the engagement party & Wedding - cute!!)

We personally would rather a nice Cd of music played during the meal, then comedian then band - something different . . . is this too different, we wanna keep it relaxed and chilled, what are your opinions & also any of you know any comedians (we all know funny men but a comedian :P)

Or even have any ideas for other entertainment ideas??

Thanks All

It's a great idea hun! Lots of girls on here (if i remember rightly) have had/will be having alternative entertainment! It add's that something extra to the day, and it's something totally unexpected that guests will be talking about for ages afterwards! :) We're just having a nice C.D playing during the meal, so that's nothing out of the ordinary.I really don't know of any comedians who would do weddings (only the really famous ones, and they would probably cost you an arm and a leg!) but keep us posted on this, it would be interesting to see how it goes for ya! :D

Its a good idea, that!

Just google Pat Shortt, Paul Malone, those guys and you should get a website. Less well-known guys like The Big O would be cheaper perhaps?

However, there's nothing worse than a bad comedian

We had one support us once years ago when I played in Dickie Rocks band. Jaysis he was wojus. It was mortfying! and we couldn't leave the stage, we were stuck behind him.

How about something like horse/dog racing. It's like an interactive DVD type thing, and people put on bets and stuff?

There's a couple in Wexford. [SPAM LINK BLOCKED] , they where at the whites wedding fair, they do instant print photo sesions for the guests, they can pay or do what I am and give vouchers as the favors. It's great that the guests will go home with something other than hangovers haha

hey msbbe welcome to the site :happywave I think thats a great idea and is something different to the norm :clapper when i got married i didn't have a band either i just had a DJ... I was just thinking maybe you'd be able to find a good comedian in somewhere like the laughter lounge on their open mic night or somewhere like the haypenny bridge bar as they have comedians in there all the time (I think on Thursday nights but could be wrong) that are trying to make it big and some of them can be very funny. I'm sure they would do a gig for 1000 euro or less when you think about it that is much less then the cost of a band... if your from Dublin maybe try there first just a suggestion but at least you'd be able to see the reaction from the crowd before you book them and i'm sure any up and coming artist would be delighted to do something like your wedding to get their name out there :) let us know how you get on hun...

Th only thing is time in that case. A band usually play 2, 2 and a half hours...thats a long time for a comedian, so you might be left with a gap to fill

I'd say the most a comic will do is about an hour.
