Tipping Suppliers??

Postby IRockedTheFrock » Wed Nov 23, 2011 1:34 pm

:yikes2 Girls I have read on a couple of wedding sites that you are supposed to tip the suppliers certain percentages and I am just wondering is this just a very american thing? I have never heard of this before and to be honest it sounds a bit outrageous considering the costs we are already paying! :nobadtalk I wouldnt be able to afford it but at the same time I would be embarrassed if it was expected of me. :?

:yikes2

Thats crazy, we wont be tipping all our suppliers. We're leaving money behind the bar for the photographer and videographer to have dinner but thats it. I don't know about tipping the waiting staff at the meal.

I certainly wont be tipping anyone else though, their doing their job, nobody tips me for what I do.

I will tip the girl who does my make up and the girl who does my hair, other than that the rest of them can sod off, they are charging a fortune for their services so that is enough for them!! i will drop in a few tins of sweets to the staff in the hotel though plus a thank you card

Yes I originally planned just to pay for the photographer to have lunch and also get some tea and scones to the room for the hairdresser and make up artist but thats it. I'm paying 250 for my hairdreser and 250 for my make up artist so i think thats enough!

God no can't afford that the budget is already tight as it is. I'll be getting a few small thank yous for friends and family that have helped but that's the height of it as Fiona said we're paying them enough as it is. In an ideal world yeah tipping would be nice but don't think it's necessary unless you have money to throw away.

I'm definitely not tipping. Everything costs too much already. There really shouldn't be a need for charges for weddings to be so much. It's mental.

Hi there, unless it's in the terms and conditions, no supplier expects it, especially not these days. I know I am just a florist, but once I got a very nice box of choccies from one of my clients :clapper , and what means more to me is when I get a little card or hand written note in with my payment to say thank you. I keep them all, they remind me of why I do this job when things are tough.

Hi

Tipping is a rare event in our business, just a 'thank you' is enough if the client is happy.

Best wishes,

Hi RocTheFroc,

I am a supplier and a thank you card from the couple means so much more than a tip. If you feel a supplier has given you a good service and product, use this forum as a way to thank them, that is tip enough.

Tony, my h2b gives tips all the time, usually along the lines of "Turn your jeans inside out before you wash them!!" You have been warned!

BTW, that last comment I made is what h2b replies when I ask if we should tip someone. I thought it was a common kind of joke, but maybe its not. I was not poking fun at Tony. Hope it didn't come across that way!

phew! lol suit and tie to a wedding always! lol no jeans but a quick tip seeing as the topic has changed! tie ribbon to all the cars in the carpark while the service is on, then when the guests come out they can follow the ribbons if not too sure of the the way to the reception. :)

The best thing I've ever received was a handmade card with a set of dj heaphones made from fabrics from a bride 2 years ago with a thank you message.... it far nicer than a tip. Texts, emails, testimonials serve much better for me as a token of appreciation.....

It is never looked for or expected but has happened on occasion but as other suppliers have mentioned the thought to give a card/email/testimonial does count.
