We didn't have to give a church donation - in fact our priest said there was "no need at all!" so we gave him €200, gave the sacristan €80 and we opted not to have altar servers. There was just no need - plus we'd have had to organise them ourselves and I wouldn't have had a clue how to do that! Our priest did ask us if we had any eucharistic ministers attending the wedding so I made sure my aunt knew she'd be expected to give our communion.

Yeah i dont think there is any need for an altar server really. But if by then my nephew is serving i will probably ask him to do it and give him a few quid.

why do you have to pay the church AND the priest?? I was thinking of giving 150/200 euros to the priest and figured that would cover it all. He's coming to the meal so isn't that good enough? Will give the little mass services something but that's fine.
Do I have to ask priest from h2b's parish? Does that mean more money? I barely want one priest let alone two especially if I have to pay for them all

Just remeber that the priests fee is a tiny portion of what any of us are going to/have paid out for the whole day... and its the actual wedding. The meal, party, band are not the wedding but people are happy to pay huge money for these things.

When you put it like that hugbear i couldnt agree more. For those of us getting married in a church we wouldnt be able to get married without the priest!

I dont think you have to ask the priest from h2b's parish, if h2b wanted him there you could ask him as guest. I wouldnt be paying him though.

But it's not just an hour of a priests time. There's the pre nuptial enquiry that they do with you, the helping you with the mass booklet and general help with sorting out what kind of mass you want, rehearsal and then the wedding mass too. Saying it's only an hour of their time is slightly unfair.
They say that the amount donated to the priest should be in accordance with your own income. So a couple where one or both are out if work would give a lot less than a couple where both are in good jobs

Ah huggles for ya lala. Don't be grumpy petal. What gets me is paying for the church, as more than likely you and your family have been paying into the parish funds like since forever.
