Hi Missies

What are you paying your church, priest and alter servers? We were told that our church was free but a donation would be welcome? How much!? Same for the priest, he is a family friend, but i guess he has to be paid? and the little alter servers? what's the going rate??
Hope you can help!

we were told our church was 'free' but the same about the donation. I gave 200euro to the church.
the priest was a family memeber and i gave him 200 and paid for his hotel room
we didnt have alter servers but i think 10 or 20pp is ok.

I asked our priest about donations to church and he is dead set against it. We're gonna give him €150 and a neighbour child is serving for us and coming to wedding after so we just giving him €30.

I'm not doing a church donation, I go to that church regularly and donate then. Also I donate my time doing choir etc, so I don't feel I need to do a church donation.
I have no idea what to pay the priest. My local priest is doing all the paperwork as we are getting married in my parish, but its H2B's priest that's doing the ceremony as my priest is not available. So I haven't a clue what to pay each of them!

Do we have to pay alter boys/girls - aw crap!!!!!!!!! I didn't even think about them. We are planning on giving our priest €300 (that is what my sister gave him), he hasn't mentioned anything about a fee for the church so I better ask him nearer the time. i would be surprised though if the Church charges us though as it's our parish

Don't bet on it fionab, I was born and reared on the one parish and the parish priest told me it was 400 to use the church.

Our priest hasnt asked directly for money but on the checklist he gave us "church donation" is number 1 !!! With registering the wedding being 150 euro , we will be giving him about 100-150euro, and he is also coming to the wedding meal. I didnt know you had to pay servers too tho!!

€300 is a lot to give the priest. Id give him €200/€250 and give the alter servers €25 each maybe.

I am estimating 200 for priest, 200 for church and 25 for servers! Hope that is ok.. the expense! it's never ending!

It's all a lot of money that I wasn't even thinking of. I remember being an alter server for weddings (girls were allowed in my church) and if you were given a couple of quid you were wondering why. You were just excited to be serving the wedding at all. I'd better be adding that to my budget

I just got word yesterday that my church expects a donation of €250-300. Flipping hell!! Thats on top of paying the priest €300 - kinda have to give 300 cuz he married my sister last year and that is what she gave him !!!

Our priest said he didnt expect any donation to the church, he didnt mention a fee for him though, i think its up yo ourselves what we give him. I remember when i used to serve i loved doing weddings as it was a guaranteed 20quid(punts)!
