A good way to save money is not to do RSVP's just have the RSVP details on the invite.. I was at 6 weddings this year & all the invites had it that way & thats what I'm doing. I'm crafty was going doing my own invites but it is very time consuming.. so I have designed my own evening invites & printing them with vistapring @ 60cent per invite including envelope & this lady is doing my day invites & I'm laying out the wording, they are costing €2 each including envelope.. www.specialmomentsweddingstationery.com
I am doing the thank you cards myself & printing them on vistaprint - taking a photo of us from the wedding & editing it. I can show you samples..

DIY invitations can all depend on how much effort you want to put into them. You can buy DIY kits and put them together yourself after printing them out at home. All the paper and embellishments are in the kit. Or you can do everything from scratch, just buying pre-made card. I did it the most complicated (but cheapest way). I bought A4 card, paper, paper trimmer, scoring board, diamantes, ribbon, etc. and designed, cut and printed everything myself. It took a lot of time, and only for the fact I didn't have a job, I would never have done it all myself. It took a lot of time (and sanity :crazy )

DIY jobs, in general, doesn't matter how much work you need to do, will work out a little/lot cheaper than buying them. The massive upside of the bought invites is that a professional does them and you have just to look forward to the finished product instead of spending hours gluing/folding/decorating!

P.S. I also didn't have RSVPs. In this day and age they are mostly redundant, as everyone has email/mobiles (except for the older people).

Hey I'm making my own invites I got plain ivory cards in Easons with envelopes. There are 50 cards and envelopes in a pack for €4.99. So we got two packs. I'm using a pearlescent paper on the inside and I'm printing the details on that and sticking it to the inside of the card. For the front, we're just going to have our names and date of marriage on the front on a kind of a frame like effect thing. I might add a ribbon around it yet, haven't decided. They're actually not that hard to make and look the part too. I'm going to get my friend to throw her designer eye over the font but already they look lovely so hopefully going to start making them soon. All in all it's costing me about €80.00 and I still have loads of card and paper left over to make evening invites and the church booklets. I might have to buy bigger card for the church booklets but I'm not doing too many of them so shouldn't be too bad. I'm all for the DIY myself so I say go for it if you have the time and patience!

If you are doing them yourself, make sure you get some strong glue. The papercraft glue like pritt stick is next to useless! Not anything that will seep through the paper though. Double sided tape is also a god send!

Another thing, try and make sure you do the invitations under natural daylight if possible. If not, make sure it is a very stron light, so you can see all the imperfections when you are doing them. Nothing worse that doing 20 invitations, feeling really proud and then looking at them the next day and realising that you have inky fingerprints all over them and didnt see it! :totallybarf

Hey carrig12,

I was undecided whether to go diy or not then I saw my friends she just did them very simply but still really nice so decided to give it a go. I ordered a sample from www.diyweddings.ie with a pack of the hearts I wanted to put on it, turned out lovely :bounce . I then ordered 100 gatefold cards and envelopes on ebay for €23 (incl postage) and then order ribbon and hearts etc from www.pureinvitation.co.uk.I think I'll just print our names on the bottom then just to personalise them :-) I think I'll probably order my evening invites from diyweddings and stick the hearts onto it :-) hope that helps. If your unsure maybe go with a diy kit that gives all the bits included - at least that way you'll save some €€€€s anyways

I made my own invites, I got a sample from diywedding but they didn't tie in with my theme of feathers and pearls the way I wanted so I messed around using the card of the sample I got and used a template from another one of the invites and got feathers on ebay and this is how they turned out

Image

If making your get a paper guillotine to cut the paper - makes it so much easier I thought, plus good adhesive like was said - I used this to stick paper to card and it was great http://www.diywedding.ie/candypress/scr ... roduct=112
I used way too much in the beginning but then learnt was enough to put it in a line around the corners and then a bit in the middle and it lasted longer

I used this to stick the feathers on http://www.diywedding.ie/candypress/scr ... oduct=1870
