Candy Buffet DIYers!!!

Postby mrsmana2b » Thu Feb 02, 2012 9:32 pm

I'm one of those doing my own candy buffet! I'm picking up bits every week and I just thought I'd let the rest of ye know that ALDI have their Valentine's stuff in from today! They have the mini packs of love hearts (12 in a pack for 89c) and red love heart jellies in a plastic box 500g for E2.60. I got 12 packs of the mini love hearts and 2 boxes of the jelly hearts for about E16! I'm delighted with them!!!

well done, wonder when their sell by date ends, not getting married till Dec, got a few bits here and there, but no sweets yet, there's a site on ebay selling sweets, havent seen better value anywhere else really.....also if your picking up vases, check out st.vincent de paul kinda places - saw it on another post, after i'd bought a few bits...

Sell By date isn't until well into 2013!!! Thanks for those tips, I'm hoping IKEA will have a good few glass bowls, vases etc but I'll definitely be checking out charity shops from now on as well! Not getting married until July so have a good bit of time yet!

April2012, Ikea have a good range, I'm getting a few of these: http://www.ikea.com/ie/en/catalog/products/00030262/

Going to use them without the lid and jazz them up a bit with ribbon, etc.!

Also keep an eye out in Penneys homeware section, vases and bowls there are a good price when they have them :)

I'm thinking about 4 or 5 of that type, then a couple of vases or taller jars, maybe a couple of shallow bowls too... you're right though, I think the key is variety, different heights especially!

Not at all april2012, we're all in this together :D I got some of those jars mentioned by 2012cantwait and I'm going to get one or two of these

http://www.ikea.com/ie/en/catalog/produ ... #/20188529

I have a few glass vases at home myself and am going to beg, borrow and steal as many other jars and things as I can! This candy buffet is one of my biggest projects of the wedding-- I'm obsessed like! I really want it to be a talking point of the wedding! A lot of the family guests havn't been to a wedding in years so won't have seen a candy buffet before! And it is my mission to do it for 200euro!!!

Wow, hadn't seen that bowl mrsmana2b, love it! I'm the same, I think it's going to be a real talking point. You can definitely do it for less than 200 quid! One thing I'd say, I don't know if you're in Dublin but the 1.49 shops in the Ilac Centre and out in Blanchardstown have been quite good for picking up retro sweets too :)

Cheers mrsmana2b thanks for the tip off! must get to Aldi over the weekend and just to add I was chatting to the staff of the €2 shop and they said all their Valentine stuff will be in this week too - again the chocolate love hearts, candy love hearts and the likes! Thanks again
