I was told it was shut down for 4 weeks! No one mentioned months. im not sure what to do myself either. they offered such a good package and we're on a tight budget that couldn't be matched anywhere else. for us to move we need to find another 2000e from somewhere and we still havent money put by for honeymoon yet. we went for the 30e package, the closest i can find is 49e. Can i ask what your family and friends have heard? Did they hear months too?

My wedding is there too at the end of June. It's closed for 4 weeks to repair the heating in the hotel. H2b spoke with them yesterday and this morning. I was fielding calls from my family last night as well, so we decided to call them again this morning. They're aware that the rumour mill is running miles with this.

thanks girls
i rang the Glenroyal Hotel in Maynooth and they are offering me the same package for €600 more. i am going to meet them over the weekend to view the hotel. Look for Claira she is lovely and very helpful.
Kmay - did you ring the carlton group before or did they just ring you?

i have also been told this morning that the alcohol, barrels and all are being removed from the hotel. sounds a bit strange to be removing all the alcohol if there only shutting for 4 weeks. i dont know but if they are not going to make a public statement to reassure customers, employees etc then im really thinking of moving venue

Hi,

I just heard that the fitness centre & gym which is seperate to the Hotel is also closed.
The hotel is only 6 or 7 years old so I dont understand why there would be a maintenace issue already ??
Apparently is was a surprise closure - the staff were only told the day before....
Its very worrying...

well girls

i rang hotel this morning and enquired about our wedding in august. the guy that answered the phone said he was told the hotel was scheduled to re-open in 3-4 weeks time, beyond that they couldnt say!!! What kind of an answer is that????

Has anyone else heard anything definite or has anyone rang and gotten similar response?

The hotel is an old building - was converted from being a convent, so perhaps it needs some attention.

We phoned the hotel yesterday mid-morning and said to them that we'd been receiving worrying calls from our family in the area that the hotel was closed for good. We were told by the person who answered the phone that the heating in the hotel needs urgent repair and the workmen said it would take about 4 weeks to do it. They said they're taking bookings to stay in the hotel from mid-February onwards.

I really want to believe them, so my mother said she'd check it out today when she's in the town. If she gives me cause for concern I'll comment on here later.

I'm not allowed to really post on non-flower posts, BUT, I have had a number of my brides on the phone and email to me absolutely distraught about this. I have no idea what is going on, so I drove past yesterday, and it seems closed for the moment, but I also heard that the heating is gone and needs to be completely replaced. I will keep an eye on the hotel to see what happens, as I'm not far from it, and will let you all know when it re-opens. HTH.

well girls

For those who missed the interview.

Kabath ltd are no longer operating in the hotel.
The owner of the hotel said he is discussing ways to move forward and open the hotel. They are hoping to reopen in Feb but have nothing definite.
KFM said that as Kabath are gone when it does reopen the hotel have no obligation to honour any debts, deposits or agreements made with Kabath

Well at least a statement was made, but for those of us with wedding days to plan we still have no guarantee our receptions will go ahead or now it appears if the contracts re arrangments and prices will stand.

i met with Claira from the Glenroyal Hotel in Maynooth yesterday. We have booked our wedding reception with her. There is too much uncertainty with the Carlton and its meant to be the best day of our life so im not taking chances. Claira was brilliant, extremely helpful and a genuine lovely person. The hotel is lovely. they have a lovely banquet hall, reception areas, bedrooms and bridal suite. the bar is lovely too. we had a carvery lunch there and the food was gorgeous. i would highly recommend them girls.

i am going to email the Carlton today and cancel the booking. i will request my deposit back based on the fact that they still can't guarantee anything, but i won't hold my breath on getting it back.

Best of luck girls

I heard this today also, it's very upsetting for couples who have booked with them nonetheless. There is only one piece of advise that I can offer, and that is, if you have paid your deposits with a credit card, you may be able to recoup it, give the credit card company a ring, you never know girls.

I have to admit that I'm very sad about this news today. It really is a lovely hotel. I'm extremely disappointed at having been lied to, but I'm really hoping the owner can get it open again. I guess there are some hard decisions to be made tonight.
