I think they look on that diffently when somebody is in college. If you needed a letter of freedom for example, as you would from every other parish you've lived in, its not required for where you were at college.
My address if given is my home address which is in the parish with the 400euro fee.

My mum will still introduce me as her baby, for god sake :) and me 27 and taller than her. Parents never stop being parents (would you even want them too though)

haha! ah sweet. You're gas! :)
Mothers eh? my own mother used to introduce my now hubby as "this is my daughter's eh, her, eh friend....." Friend!! What????? like we were going out for a few years?! then when we got engaged it was suddenly all "oh this is my daughter's financé" with great pride ..... we haven't had the "this is my daughter's husband" yet..... the opportunity hasn't arisen. But I think I'll find it really hard not to smirk when she does (it has all become a standard joke between myself and hubby over the years).

I was just going to ask the same question. We are not getting married in our own parish so we have to find our own priest which is proving to be difficult. Do all churches expect you to leave the flowers? I thought you took them with you to the reception for the top table/room? So, is it normal to pay 200 each to the priest n the church?

Our church is charging us 500 just for the church, that doesn't include the sacristan, alter boys and priest from an outside parish. Are you supposed to give a donation on top of this?? :?

I was on a parish website and it recommended a min of €120 for the priest, and min of €20 for the sacristan. But I suppose its up to you.
summerbride where are you getting married? It isn't the abbey in multy is it?
I don't think if you pay 500 for the church that you need to give a donation to the church on top of the set fee. But yes to money for the priest, altar boys and sacristan.

Hi squinn_july2011, no it's a church in Enniskerry. To be honest I thought 500 or so was a usual price for a church until I saw forums on here :? Should really have checked first, ah well. Yeh, I think the donations to the priest, sacristan etc is enough, we even have to pay the organist of the church who won't be playing on that day as we have our own, who of course we have to pay too :dizzy It sure all adds up doesn't it!

Why do you have to pay the organist who WON'T be playing?? That's just ridiculous!

Tell me about it, but apparently it's a courtesy payment as she is the organist from the church ad always plays and because we're not using her we should pay for the loss of business or something. It's crazy. That's why I'm not overly keen in giving them any extra money than we actually have to, on top of what we are already!! We also have to pay for my H2B to go to Sunday School and make his confirmation but that will nearly be worth the money to see that as he never made it

OMg u have to pay for the orgainst and ur not using it, no way that is not fair! This is thing, a whole load of added extras and while everybody is tryin to look after everybodys best intentions someone will be put out.
I highly doubt u have to make a donation to your Church when paying an excat fee. So this fee of 500 doesnt include priest sacristan etc so u have to pay untop of that?
Not mening to be rude girls jsut a bit taken back there.

Couldn't agree more

I'd agree with that - the set fee is the fee and there's no need or requirement for a 'donation' on top of that. However, as I've mentioned in previous posts on this thread, the Sacristan and Priest 'donations' are nothing to do with the church fee - they are completely seperate. Money given to them is seen as more of a gesture of thanks as opposed to a fee or donation.

Yeh, I think we'll have to give the donation to the priest etc but don't think we'll give a church one considering the price we are paying already.
