Church Donation

Postby MrsCegiel2B » Wed Jul 28, 2010 2:40 pm

Just wondering if anyone could give me idea as what is classed as a good donation for your chosen church ? I'm sitting here trying to do up a rough budget. It's probably a stupid question but I don't want to be mean to the church either..... Thanks ladies

Hi hun, I gave 200 euro. I think a lot of it depends on how much you would use the church, like if you know the priest/vicar quite well then maybe give a little more? Like when we got our daughter christened we only gave 100 I think, because we hadn't really been to that church before... but when we decided to get married there aswell we thought it would be appropriate to give extra. At the end of the day hun, it's a 'donation', so whatever you can afford/feel comfortable with is the right ammount for you. :D

ya we were thinking around 200 aswell though our priest is very much like "no need for donation ye will be spending enough" but like were all going to give somet so im thinking between 150 and 200 dependin on how tight money is!!

We were thinking 200 for our church but h2bs cousin is performing the marriage so we'd like to give him some money too. We dont want to give the church any less though because ive heard of some parishes actually charging for use of the church with a set price for christenings marriages etc and that any flowers brought into the church become church property.
colour12 ur priest sounds really nice that he said that, its nice that they understand sometimes how hard it is.

How can they charge you for the church? That's just wrong. I would happily hand over a good donation but would begrudgingly hand over the fee. Well I suppose I will have to wait and see. Only going to see the Priest on Sunday plus to add to it we will have to tell him that we don' want him to do the ceremony. I'm not looking forward to telling him but we have good reason or it........ hopefully he will understand

they shouldnt have a problem once its said to them, obiviously ur chosen priest will still have to include the parish priest but its not major i dont think.I think its nice to have ur own, were lucky cause h2b cousin is very nice and has been invlovled with his family so he knows us and our previous history and its a more personal cermony. Ye my own parish (mammys area) have a fee and wat not. MrsCeigiel2B are you going to give a donation to ur chosen priest then too or small token etc?

I we will have to give him something. You see my H2B is not Irish so we need a priest that can give the ceremony in both languages. Maybe a donation as well. I'm not very sure which would be best. Any advice ?

i would say cash i know tat sounds cold but reckon its the best, he could bring it back to his own parish towards their own causes. Or you could ask him could u make a donation to a charity of his choice in honour of him, that might be nice. :)

Aw I like the sound of the charity. We all have one that is close to our hearts. I think I will go with that one. Thanks for the idea. :happywave

wow I really don't think it's right that they have a set charge.... and I'm not mean saying that as €200 would be what I am expecting to donate... it just seems very wrong to me

were planning on giving church 200 and our priest 200 too. So basicaly thats a lot to start of with. But id rather give it as a donation then as a demand for use of the church for a hour or so. Im prob being mean in sayin this but i would like to take some of my flowers back with me too. Maybe for my top table.
