Costs help for an overseas bride!
Costs help for an overseas bride!
I am glad to have found this forum and from reading this it seems that everyone is very helpful and friendly. I am a bride to be currently living in Australia but am coming back home to Ireland for my wedding in June next year. Yes 7 months to go!! Its all very exciting and i have been pretty organised to date but i am hoping that you can help me out with what i should be paying for costs etc as i am really a bit in the dark over here. Here are some of the quotes so far so any advise on whether they are reasonable or not woudl be great!
I know there is a recession on so i am wondering if i should be negotiating /bargaining a bit more. My wedding is also on a Wednesday.
- Wedding Music for Church and 2 hours reception afterward 450euros.
- Photographer with CD only 950euros. (if anyone can recommend anyone near waterford would be great!)
- band and DJ - 1500 euros
- flowers - what would you expect to pay for this? i have budgeted 400euros.
- Cake - i am very luckly that my uncle owns a cupcake business is doing the cake for us.
- Cars - My dad owns a car hire business so we are going to use some of his cars.
- Suits - My fiance found a place that hires suits for 100 euros.
- Dress shoes and all my other stuff like invites etc i have been able to get over here.
Thanks everyone, i look forward to hearing your tips/thoughts etc.

Re: Costs help for an overseas bride!
Your prices sound really good to me. That's a great deal on the music for the church and afters!! The only one I would question is the flowers. Now I can't help you out much here as h2b's brother and his wife have done all the flowers for family weddings so we're getting that as a present. We do have to pay for the flowers and we've budgeted about €300.00 for that and they are going to arrange them. Now it could be less or could be more we're just not sure. There is a supplier on this website who does flowers, her name is Giselle and I've seen pictures of the flowers she has done for other missies and they look amazing and her prices are really good. It would be no harm to send her a message and she'd give you a quote. You'll find her in the suppliers list.
Seems like you've got yourself sorted so far and great that you can get some of them as presents too!!

Photographer seems a little expensive for disc only if you want i can pm our photographer.
Church music and 2 hours is an excellent price thats a great deal.
Flowers can vary in price depending on what you want. Were paying 500 for our flowers.
Band and dg price is good.
Suits. 100 is good but there is a few places giving the groom his suit for free if you hire the groomsmen so it might be worth trying to see will they do your partners suit for free.
Best of luck

I'm not a photographer but you should remember that it's not just a matter of taking pictures and then putting them on a cd. Not only does the time involved, travel etc. have to be charged but if the photographer is really good and has good experience then each picture and I mean each picture is edited to make it look perfect. I've heard it's pain staking work. It's the same for bands some prices may seem steep but when you factor in equipment, each band member travel etc. you see where the money goes.
