Well the problem I have with getting things in return for the donation is that you may as well not bother at all.
The keyrings, and pins and all that stuff cost money to produce, so in essence your not really making a donation, just buying the products. Which might benefit the charity a little, but not as much as if the donation was made with nothing wanted in return...

We'll be getting a rubber Stamp from the Gary Kelly Centre in Drogheda Co.Louth, to stamp our scrolls that we'll be making ourselves. Just to say that we've actually made the donation.

I thin if you get on to the charities that you're donating to they might send out something that you can give e.g the breast cancer society will send pink ribbons, canncer society some of their daffodil badges etc. I've seen that at a wedding before.

I just think in the midst of all the money we spend on one day, that making a difference to someones life is a great way of making the day even more special, and there are so many charities out there who are over worked and under funded....

Im excited about it!

ive been on the phone to Headway & they have a deal with Butlers Chocolates that they give you chocolates as favours and then headway will print little cards to say that we have made a donation.

See as nice as that is and all, it still in my eyes, defeats the purpose of the donation.
Because in essence your only paying for the favours and the charity isnt benefiting from the money coz theyre having to pay for cards, keyrings, pins, chocolates ect.....

Am I being weird about this?!

Is anybody else thinking about v de p and I wonder if they give place cards or something. Think putting it on the bottom of the menu is a good idea if you have nothing else to show for your donation.

I think this is a brilliant idea. If I were to give to a charity today, it would be st.vincent de paul. It's wonderfull that you're all giving to charites that are in your hearts, but this charity helps people in your area, people who struggle to get through daily life. The cost of living in this country is ridiculous, and most of us don't realise just how many families in Ireland are living below the poverty line. I remember years ago, my parents breaking down crying when a st.vincent de paul lady came round with a box of food to get us through Christmas. I could never imagine not being able to buy food for my child.... and this is happenning in THIS day and age, in THIS country. Gosh, maybe I should be doing this after all...

And Becky, you're not being weird! I made this point in a previous post on this same thread. I personally wouldn't want anything in return, it would kind of defeat the purpose imo. Then again, it depends on how much exactly you're giving the chosen charity, i think if you're giving over €200 then a few pins or ribbons for your guests wouldn't make too much of a dent in the ammount of your donatation actually going to the charity. But like I said, personally, I wouldn't want anything, i'd write it on the back of my place cards, or make a few scrolls with some ribbon tied around, as you said.

I wouldn't necessarily want anything back - maybe just cards that you could put on table to make it look more official.. but if I give say € 2 per guest that would be around € 400 so they will be getting a fair bit of money

Exactly! That's grand like, the ammount of money going to the charity very much outweighs what you'll be recieving from them. I just meant, for someone like myself that maybe couldn't afford more than say, €150, shouldn't be looking for anything in return. It would deffo defeat the purpose in that case...!
