Dress Advice

Postby betteroffwed » Tue Jan 31, 2012 10:14 pm

There is this dress i have had my eye on since we got engaged, but as we are a good bit away from the big day i was putting off going to try it on. now there is another that i have my eye on but i'll have to travel to get it. Anyway I emailed the shop and got some great news, the dress is a) actually not as expensive as i feared and b) on sale (sample) in my size, actually in three sizes which is good cause im atually carrying a bit of xmas weight still :( so if i need to go up a size i have that wiggle room.
anywho, just wondering wether its a bit too soon.. now i'll assume as its a sale price i'll have to pay upfront so im just worried that its a long ways away from the wedding to be having the dress at home and will i get fed up of it and change my mind etc etc etc... or will i be taking it home or what is the norm when you buy a dress on sale...
i really love the dress :smitten and cant believe my luck that its on sale (will save me 600 squids). id be ragin :verymad if i dont like it on but i still have the other dress to try if thats the case... im gonna make an appoinment for asap. but maybe im getting ahead of myself... im just so excited... ok crazy ramblings over...

thanks ohlordy, think im just unsure what is the craic, with ordering/storing the dress. i guess ill just know when i try it on, and i'll hardly change my mind if it looks good on.. just loooove the dress and cant show himself obviously and no one else here to be excited with so my mind is going 90.... my sisters and friend are my bms, im in laois, getting wed in kk but sisters live in limerick and friend in antrim... so not so easy to get us all together.. still cant quite believe my luck cause usually when i price anything i love i always pick the most expensive option...

:happywave I got my dress 3 weeks ago,was on sale too.The shop are holding onto it for me and i'm throwing a few quid of it week by week.My advice is if you feel it's the one don't let it pass, try it on,put a deposit and don't look at anymore dresses :)

Yeah,i got my bm's dresses in the same shop. The girls in the shop told me to stop looking at dresses so i wouldn't change my mind, but there's not a chance of that happening,i'm completely in love with my dress :smitten

Buy, buy, buy!!! I got my dress on sample sale April of last year (which was about 2 and a quarter years before the wedding!!). It was exactly what i wanted and i couldn't have afforded it off the sale. It's at home since and nearly a year on, is still perfect! I try it on now and again, and it helps me keep an eye on my weight for it! I also found it's great cos i can try different types of shoes and jewellery with it, and veils i bought cheaply on e bay etc.
I won't get alterations done til next year, and i make sure to keep it in it's original breathable bag in a room where the temp stays fairly constant (about 18 -20 deg the girl in the shop recommended, just to make sure not to keep in a room where the heating would be turned off in the winter and it would get cold etc).
i never had any regrets about buying it, and i still look at dresses in magazines etc and haven't seen anything i'd like more!

okay so i tried on the dress......... but didnt like it... now it is a beaut of a dress, but did not suit me at all.. but no worries.. the very next dress i tried i fell madly in love with... of course its not on sale but it was still within our original budget so i'll just have to find a saving elsewhere... this was my first experience trying on dresses so i will try other shops, but tbh i think it will be the one.. my sisters face when she saw it on me..i tried a few after it an another one stood out, but still the other was my fave. thank you all for your help and advice, just thought id leave an update! thanks again ladies..

Hi fellow missies :)

I'm in the exact same boat!! Wedding is not until June next year and I went browsing for dresses . Wish I hadn't as I didnt intend ordering until the summer :(
Found two I loved - I'm afraid I'll keep looking online if I order now . Any advice? I'm very indecisive at the best of times :) one of the dresses is a 2012 collection bunts way over budget but should still be there in the summer. The other one is from the classics victoria Jane collection- think it was originally 2010 collection. And it's below budget :) there is a risk it may not be there in the summer but I'm not sure if the shop said this to try get a sale !!

What do you think I should do? Should I look in a few more shops?
