Re: Engagement ring?
Its not really an answer to your question but anyway.....
Why do you want to get it melted? I presume its fairly old?
Recently i got engaged and decided to bring my Mums engagement ring(over 30 years old and never been cleaned/polished) to the shop where i got mine, they cleaned it but and polished it...plated the platinum claws etc....it went from a pretty but fairly standard ring to a beautiful sparkly expensive looking ring......that i would be proud to wear ...so in my opinion you could try that first as its quite cheap about €40

When we were in chatting to him, he told us that the basic cost of making the ring would be E500 because of the price of gold - that was 18ct he was talking about. He's a manufacturing jeweller and showed us his work room and everything. If you were to take your ring in to him he could probably use all the material in the ring to give you a brand new design for you as well. He did tell us that his preference is to work with 18ct gold - just so you're aware. I'll pm you his name if you're interested because he's not a supplier on here. He made my friends engagement and wedding rings and did a fantastic job.
Waterpilly that would be great if you could pm me those details. I'm living in Dublin but have no idea where you start looking for a goldsmith!! I'm not sure what carat mams ring is will have to ask her!

Price a few places first before you go with one of them.
