Engagement Ring

Postby Anakha » Tue Jul 14, 2009 4:43 pm

H2B and I went shopping for the engagement ring today. Just thought I'd share some info with those of you planning to shop for yours. Initially, I wanted an emerald engagement ring (you know, to stand out from the crowd) but the jeweller explained to me that reason diamonds are mainly used is because the stone is so tough. Emeralds are apparently a very soft stone and can break easily. Also, check how many claws are used to hold the stone in place. The claws have been known to break off and, as a basic rule of thumb, 6 claws are better than 4. Also, don't be afraid to shop around. We're actually going to buy the stone from one person and have a jeweller make up the ring. Hope that's of use to someone :D

i 've had my engagement ring for 8 years but its white gold and my h2b wants us 2 have matching gold bands so i said that would look odd if i had to differnt colours on my finger he said then that he would get one to match the wedding band then how sweet of him i wonder if just before the wedding if he will suprise me and ask me to marry him all over again that would be nice

I'd like a new 1 too, i've had mine for 4yrs now, but i think the one i have has too much sentimental value for me to replace it with a shiny younger model! :smitten

I love my ring... i dont think i could ever replace it... maybe just dress it up with a nice wedding band that compliments it and an eternity ring in the future that is dripping in diamonds... take the eyes out of yer heads!

Yeah when I went shopping with my engagement, I went to as many jewellers are I could. wanted to make sure that the ring I picked was the one. I have it now one month and I love it to bits.... I love the sparkle....
Oh re enternity rings... when are ye suppose to get one and does it go on the same finger as your engagement + wedding band.

Apparently the tradition is that you get your first eternity ring after you have your first child and your husband is supposed to buy it for you... kind of as a push present!!!!!!!
You wear it on the same finger as engagement and wedding rings. Although i have to say, my mam has about 4 of them and i only have a brother and a sister so i wonder where the other two are hiding!!!!!!!!

I've heard of people getting an eternity ring for their first year anniverary (maybe this happened b4 the recession :D ) I know an eternity ring is traditionally suppose to be when you have your first child but as a friend said to me who can't have children does that mean she can never get one!!! So I say whenever you have some spare cash regardless if you have children or not you should go ahead and get one if you want ;)
