Fake Nails

Postby TanyaBranning » Mon Nov 07, 2011 12:17 pm

Ladies and Gents, I'm getting my nails done today in preparation for my hen, and will probably keep them refilled between now and the wedding. Anyway I know none of them are good for your nails, but I've tried in vain to grow my own and they are too weak and keep splitting and breaking.

Have had the acrylic done, but never gel. Just wondering what you would recommend and if the gel is as durable as the acrylic.

My nails won't grow without splitting either. but i got the 3 week manicure ( not shellac!) some places call it the everlasting manicure. It is basically a gel painted onto you own nails and it is fantastic. and very natural looking. my nails are hard as anything with it. It does dry out your own nails underneath but my own nails are so weak it makes no odds to me. it is available in french manicure or a range of colours.

But what if you only have little stubs for nails, like me? :crazy

i did have stubs ( used to bite em) but it supported the nails enough not to break so they got a chance to grow. i keep mine pretty short for wearing contacts like.

Last year i got gel nails after being told they protected your real nails better then acrylic. They were great! And when i finally got them off my real nails were perfect and long (well longer than the stubs I had!) Unfortunately I've them all bitten off again now but ill be gettin gels again in jan for my hen. Hth

Are gel as strong/secure as acrylic?

I found that the gel nails ruined my natural nails; by the time I had them removed, my own nails were like paper. I have to say that I love the shellac nails, and so do my natural nails. :) They were much stronger underneath the shellac, less prone to flaking and snapping.

hiya tanya,
im a beautician, but i havnt got around to doing a gels or acrylics course but when brides come to where i work for gels or acrylics and are unsure if what to get, my boss would always tell them acrylics are more durable for them. i do the shellac version on most brides, we dont actually do "shellac" ours is a jessica version of the 2 week manicure called geleration and i do find it very good. just putting my 2 cents in there for u to think about :)

Thanks ladies for all the input. Between work and housework and drunken antics this weekend on my hen, I think I better go for durability, as they will all destroy my nails anyway. Acrylic it is :)

Shellac all the way hun. For my BMs wedding 4 yrs ago we had gel nails but I hate long nails and they wrecked my own nails afterwards. I get shellac done now and even though they can weaken my own nails at first when I take it off it doesn't last long. It's just like an extra layer of gel applied to your nails, as opposed to fake nails. Each to their own but that's what I prefer :)

Thank you all. Got acrylics yesterday and really happy with them. I never get them too long as I like to be able to pull my own knickers up and down after I pee
