Friday weddings advice!

Postby Star_Lily » Tue Jan 31, 2012 5:07 pm

Hi everyone!

We were hoping to get married abroad but doesnt seem to be working out as cheaply as we thought it would...
Does anyone know if getting married on a friday would make it cheaper than a saturday in Ireland?? i know wednesday/thursdays are very popular but would prefer the friday for other convenience. We wouldnt be getting married in a church.
Want to get married summer 2013 so feeling the pressure to make a decision either way!
:smileybride
Thanks for any advice

we are getting married on a friday and unfortunately that day of the week goes under the price of a weekend and not a midweek wedding.

Hi there Friday doesn't make it any cheaper, from what our hotel have told us Friday has become more popular than saturday as its like a long weekend. I wouldn't feel under any pressure to book anything as I have friends organising their wedding for the end of this summer and they don't have anything booked yet.

Thanks so much, i suppose if it really came down to savings then a Thursday would be fine if thats not counted as the weekend. Always thought i wanted to get married abroad but any savings you make on flowers or something just seems to be spent somewhere else! some of the ladies on here have said theres great deals in hotels because of recession etc so maybe just meed to start doing some research! :mrs2benut
Want to get married outside so sunshine is important!

Hi Star Lily,

On booking the hotel in Ireland, you have loads of time. We got engaged in August 2011 and are getting married May bank holiday this year in our first choice hotel. We were lucky they had a cancellation but if you don't have a particular venue or date you have your heart set on you will be fine.

Midweek is normally cheaper, but so is off season. You might get spring or autumn 2013 much cheaper than summer.

You mentioned that you want to get married outside. Just be aware that the HSE registrars will only marry you indoors, in an approved venue. If you want to get married outside I think that Humanist/spiritualist celebrants are the only ones who can do it.

Hey Ladies, when i was booking suppliers i asked them was it any cheaper as my wedding is also on a Friday. One guy turned around and says " Cheaper, I should be charging you more, Friday is the new Saturday my Dear" needless to say we didnt book with this gentleman :fingers2

Hi Star Lilly

were getting married the end of november 2013 , we had originally booked October but for the sake of a few weeks and a saving of €4000 we went with november ... from march to oct is classed as "PEAK" where as nov - march is off peak .. but if your set on an outdoors wedding you reall have to go in Peak times ..

Thanks everyone, we decided to go with the original plan of getting married abroad so we could get married outside, have sunshine, cut down on numbers etc! :justarried2
