What I meant was, we have to get apostille stamps for our birthcerts because were not born here. I have edited above so that it makes sense now! doh!

Hi ya just wondering could you explain this stamp thing to me as h2b is also english so i presume will have to do the same thing! Does the birth cert still have to be within 6 months?

Hi Sadlier :bluewave

okay Birthcert and Baptismal Cert - two different things for two different people!

Birthcert is needed to register intent to marriage - so for the registry office and that needs an Apostille stamp if you were not born here. http://www.groireland.ie/getting_married.htm That page will give you the info you need. I was born in London (but have lived here since I was 2 years of age!!) So your h2b should look at this website to get Apostille Stamp on his birthcert www.fco.gov.uk Look under legislation section. The application form and all is on it.

Baptismal Cert - is for the priest and this must be dated within 6 months of marriage.

Hope that helps (and hope it was accurate!!)

As far as I know, giving a donation to the priest does not mean that he gives any to the church. He usually keeps that for himself. You pay the priest for his time, and the church for, well... being a church and asking you for money! We will probably give €200 to the priest and €50 to the sacristan, but we are not donating to the church itself, out of principal. They charge people not from the parish €250 to use the church for weddings, but that has been my local church since I was 9, despite being about 100 feet outside the parish boundaries. I was also in choir and an alter server there for years, so I have given them years of my life! They also demand a "compulsory donation" of the flowers that we have for the wedding, so we can't take them with us to the reception :yikes2

Wow letmeeatcake, thats mad!! We are getting married in my home town so was giving 250 to priest, nothing separate for church, and 50 for sacristan (I asked around what was the done thing, I have only moved back home in the last couple of years, was living up north for years before that). I never knew a church would charge someone for using the church that wasnt in the parish, anways, mmmm, it doesnt sit right with me at all. I have learned a lot the last few months!! Well you definitely have done your time as a youngster there (i did the choir thing, but not the altar girl thing)!! Cannot believe you cant take your flowers with you to the reception, I have never ever heard that before.

Yes they outline everything in our booklet we got from the church, donation of flowers, price to hire church, etc. Funnily enough, they don't even mention paying the priest, so as long as the church is looked after, they don't seem to care! Ridiculous.
