Hey Missies
Looking for a bit of advice. When we initially booked our hotel they were looking for €400 deposit, which we paid. They wanted anoter €400 before xmas and another €800 by the end of february. I'm just wondering if this is the norm?
We didn't give the money in december, I managed to fob them off saying after xmas but I just know they are gonna call any day looking for it.
The reason I'm anxious to hand over any more money is they've been taken over by the bank and whilst they are running it at the moment I don't feel that's enough of a guarentee.
So how much have you given before the day? Is it more/less? Are stage payments expected?

well we dont have to give the money till the day after.. we gave a 1000eur deposit.. was it in ur contract?its a bit unfair lookn for all that money if it wsnt

We had to give a €1,000 deposit and then we have to give half of the reception cost 6 weeks before the wedding and the rest the day after.

we had 4 months to pay 1000 but we took longer n they didnt say nethin,it was in the contract but the wedding co ordinater sed not to worry that we cud drop sum in if we were passing.i dnt think ders so much pressure wit the way things r at the mo,

With our place we paid a €400 deposit and then they bill us the day after the wedding and we pay the rest then. Thank God, cause I've enough on my plate without worrying about the hotel too!

Wow the hotel im looking at wants €2,000 when we book it altogether it will cost €6,000+ might have to have a chat with them bout that.......

We had to pay a deposit of €2000 when we booked in July
This month we have to pay 50% of the balance. Then at the start of march we have to pay another 25% and then the last 25% on the day of check out.
I'd be worried though if I were you about the bank being in control of the venue. Do you have any wedding insurance? Do you think you could take the hit on your €400 and book another venue?

We only had to pay €200 as a deposit and hotel told us not to come back to until early 2012 to sort out the finer details. I would have a look at your contract and have a chat with the hotel, to tell you the truth I think I would prefare to have a good bit of the money paid before the day itself and would be more than happy if my hotel would let me pay money of as I go, though if it was very far out from the wedding I would be a bit sceptical.

Do you have wedding insurance, if you do then if the hotel goes bust then you will be completly covered! If you dont then maybe you could look into getting it, even if the bank does have control over the hotel, if they are able to make it profetable they will keep it going!!!

I paid 200 euro deposit! But didnt say anythin bout payin anymore! might give them some at easter. and pay the rest day after the wedding!!

we paid 2,000 deposit and have 3,500 left to pay!! ouch!! we are going to pay as much of it as we can before the big so we are not crippled with the stress..lol..i think most hotels will let you pay whatever way you want once the deposits are paid

Thanks so much for all your replies! It seems amazing to see how different all the hotels actually are.
I didn't sign any contracts although a verbal agreement to the money was made.
I think I'll pop in and just pay off a bit week by week and hope that'll be ok with them, at least then I'll be in regular contact if they should get any knowledge of colsing down I'd probably get it sooner.
I've been thinking abut getting wedding insurance but tbh the only place i'd be worried about is the hotel, the rest is pretty DIY and friends doing stuff.
I'm just starting to panic a little now about paying it off cos money is really getting tight and like so many others we've been refused at our credit union as it was a top-up loan so can't even draw on our savings grrrr.

We paid a deposit of €200 to secure it and had to have a 3rd paid off by christmas then 50% of the remaining balance by 2 weeks before the wedding then the balance on check out after the wedding but it can be paid on the day if we like.

They are great, she said if we have even €20 at the end of a week to spare pay even that off as it all adds up and she was right we had the 3rd paid by christmas.

wow cw2bab that seems like ALOT of money to pay beforehand! What if the service is bad or you don't get something you've paid for? have you any way of going back to them after?
