How to book??

Postby Oliveoyl » Wed Nov 02, 2011 10:30 pm

Hi missies

We went into Trailfinders yesterday to get info on honeymoon and found them great.
I just wondered though, how many of ye are booking yourselves instead of going through an agency? I've done it both ways before for holidays but lot more organisation needed to sort out honeymoon or so it seems :mrs2benut

We were thinking of :fingerscrossed 7-9 nights in Barbados or Dominican Rep, southern Caribbean cruise and 4 nights in NY. Cant actually believe I've got h2b to agree to all that! Not getting married til June so plenty of time to pay it off.

Any advice on either how to book or about our destinations would be great!
Xx

I think its a good idea to price the holiday with travel agents and independently. I choose the destination, used Tripadvisor to pick the hotel, checked the hotel website and Easyjet flights. I then checked travel agent websites and booked online through a UK travel agent and it worked out a good bit cheaper than booking the hotel and flights separately. Its worth putting a bit of time into, some other travel agent sites were much more expensive. A travel agent might be more important for you as you are thinking about more exotic destinations. Either way, don't forget travel insurance. Have fun!

We went through Trailfinders, dealt with a great girl there called Sarah. Normally I never go though travel agents and do everything on line but just didn't want any messing on honeymoon especially when we are going to Thailand and doing a good bit of hopping around the place! We got travel insurance through our own Health Insurance Quinn Healthcare, €61 for both of us for multi trip for the year!

what i'll hopefully be doing when the time comes, is give 2/3 travel agents where i'm hoping to go and the budget and explainn to them that you've 2 agents looking into it........not sure this is true but think we'll be going through travel agents, one dont need the hassle of organising everything ourselves, and 2 if anything goes wrong think when you book through agent you've more insurance - as in someone to go back to if things do go wrong...best of luck though, sounds a lovely honeymoon

Hiya FionaB, just read your post and see you are going to Thailand for honeymoon!! We are hoping to do the same but we are getting married in Feb so not much time for planning! We are going to go for just over 2 and a half weeks and will be booking it ourselves I think! Can I ask what you are doing over there? We are hoping to spend a few days in Bangkok, the overnight train to Chang Mai for a few days and then fly to the islands but don't know which ones to go to or not! Any advice you could pass on??? Cheers

Hi Oliveoyl :bluewave ,

I've looked into this a little, not 100% sure which root is best but the best to do is price it all up separately and go to a travel agents and see what price they come up with also.

I'm looking at the carribbean and new york, looking at 9 nights somewhere in the sun and then 4 nights in New york. Firstly, I found you can book flights directly with continental airlines as a multitrip - so for example Dub to New york (these actually fly into New Jersey airport) then New York to carribean and the same trip back with continental airlines. Then for accomodation, I always use tripadvisor for recommendations and then check alpharooms, travelrepublic and booking.com to compare prices, have always found these cheaper.

I would book travel insurance and a good one at that, for my last holiday I used axa insurance and they even had catastrophe cover which would cover ash clouds or hurricanes (needed for the carribbean as the summer is hurricane season in carribbean).

Hope this helps
