I've just been to a wedding dress shop, my first one. Is it me, or was it the weirdest feeling in the world ever? I walked around looking at dresses as if they were for someone else! Every one of them in that particular shop was hideous, I wouldn't wear any, but maybe that's just because it was my first shop!

Well I didnt have that exact feeling, but it took a few shops to realise what suited me and what didnt. Now saying that what I had in mind was what I ended up with.. They try on a few that I thought would look ridiculous but actually they were nice.. Keep shopping and looking through magazines.

And I promise you this when you do find the one you will now.
I thought people were mad but it is true

I have ideas on what I want as well and I kind of knew I wouldn't find them in that particular shop. I think it was the fact I was a bride to be that suddenly seemed weird! I went through a lot to get to this point with h2b, so to finally be looking at wedding dresses was almost like a dream!

I hated my first shop.
all seize 14+ and I'm an 8.
Filthy dirty with fake tan.
Next shop was far better and where I got mine.
Lady in the shop knew what sort of bride I was . I didnt want to be trying on dresses for the sake of it I knew what I wnted and I ordered it!
the people make a big difference. You buy off people I think!

most definately have to agree with poster above its the people that help the dress experience. the first shop i went into the dresses wouldnt close and i got awful upset my poor mam that day i took the head off her on more than one occasion and im a normal sized 16 well was at that time.
the second shop i went too the woman was no more interested in me than the dirt on her shoe that was sooo unpleasent and the shop i got my dress in the ladies were amazing they knew what would suit me and tried me in all sorts and my dress (its weird saying that even now) is amazing and looks amazing on gives me a gorgeous figure they pulled it out for me i would never have tried it on cause it didnt look great on the hanger.

I wasnt too impressed with the first shop I visited, they seemed more interested in trying to get me to buy something than trying to help me and it put me off, also in this shop all the dresses seemed to be a 12ish and im a 16 so it didnt help me confidence at all!! The 3rd shop I visited(and where I bought my dress) was just fantastic, it was run by the owner and her elderly mother and my goodness did they make me feel welcome. Couldnt have been nicer, even offered to go out and get us tea and buns!!! Keep hunting and enjoy the experience x

an ciatog, this is one of the most exciting parts of the planning. i know when i first went to try on dresses my head was all over the place. finally having the chance to look at dresses for real was a bit much for me. i didn't know how to feel. i did go to one place all right that were horrible and another place that just had no interest. ive stopped looking for a while but will start again probably in May. as the missies have said, you've loads of time to see dresses so take your time and enjoy every bit of it.

Yay, others like me! Wonderful! Well, I'm going shopping for real with my bm on Sunday, I've got an appointment for a vintage style dress for Feb so it's all going well. I think it was just surreal yesterday!

I was "shopping" for a goo few months for my dress, id say maybe a year in total, but I would go and try on a few dresses then take a few months off then go again take a break, you get the picture and I can tell you there is a huge difference in place that you go, some want you to buy one there and then others are more relaxed and more interested in you finding whats right for you and if they dont have it they will try their best to point you in the right direction. I was on one of these not shopping just looking trips that I found my dress and got a great bargin on it and have it hanging in the wardrobe at home

take your time and enjoy the experience and dont settle for anything less that what you are happy with, everyone experiences "the one" differently some people get emotional, some people just know that thats it, for me I didnt want to take it off, I would have happily wore it home!

Grogmg, I know exactly what you mean. I got the "one" today, didn't want to take it off either! I love it so much, my mum and two of my bms have seen it and love it too. My mother is really excited now, it's just lovely to see her face! I've my dress in the wardrobe too and saved an absolute fortune on it!

Yeah I found it soo weird at the beginning looking at myself in a wedding dress, it felt so surreal! But when I tried on my dress I just knew, it was exactly what I wanted. Although I must admit I am kinda panicking about it all now!! I bought mine in June when I was home, I'm now living in Toronto, and I'm not sure if it's just that I'm so far away and I won't see it until 3 weeks before the wedding! Anyone else worried? Maybe it's just me!
