Menu tasting

Postby mrsfa2b » Sun Dec 04, 2011 1:39 pm

Afternoon All
Although it still feels like morning....
Just wondering what the craic is with the menu tasting? How far in advance is best to do it? Anyone done it and hated the food? Tips and thoughts would be appreciated.

Were doing our menu tasting 2 months before our wedding but we have gone down twice since booking the venue to make sure we loved the food and as an excuse to get out for a meal lol.

h2b believed that they would make sure the menu tasting was perfect so thats why he wanted to go down the first time for a meal where nobody knew we had a wedding booked and we could judge the food properly and make sure we loved it.

we had ours last sunday which was 2 months before the wedding. it was lovely, although we did decide to change our dessert choices after tasting the sample platter of all their dessert options.they also gave us a ig selection of all the veg and potatoe options, some we liked some we didnt so we just picked the ones we liked for the wedding day.like dec 2012 we have eaten in their restaurant a few times to make sure of the food and we have been at 3 weddings already in that venue and know the standard of the food will be high.

We went mid November, about a month before the wedding. It was lovely and we're delighted with our choices. Hope our guests are too, but TBH if they're not I'll be long past caring at that stage!

:D We went for ours last night it was nice we were allowed to bring my parents which was a help got a few more opinions. We had to write our thoughts good and bad on paper and this will go in front of the chef cooking on the day. We changed our minds on the fish choice for main course but it is hard to choose something you hope the majority of people will enjoy, you don't want people sending back loads of food because at the end of it all you still have to pay for it. So even if there is something in particular you don't like on your chosen menu you will be the bride you can pretty much have what you like. I think having it just about 2 months before your big day its like another milestone as well.

We had ours in October-the hotel organised the date for us. Didnt know what to expect but we had to pick 2 choices before the tasting to actually taste on the night. All was fabulous........especially the wine tasting ha :knockback
We still couldnt decide on our main course though cos the tasting made it even harder to choose, but we finally made a decision two weeks ago. Its prob been my favourite part of the planning so far ha!!

I think 2-3 months beforehand is the norm. We were asked to do ours during the week so that the executive chef could be there with us to discuss our options. We know we will definitely be having beef fillet as the meat option but we don't know what fish dish to choose and we won't be able to do the fish tasting until a few weeks before the wedding (due to seasonality etc).

I can't wait!

we have decided to try and get ours done nice and early but like was said earlier not make it look like we are getting married there. now we are staying the night but when we book the table we won't mention we will be trying some of the choices we had in mind for our wedding menu. i haven't eaten in the hotel since my MOH's wedding 6 years ago so will be good to refresh my mind. everyone raves about the food there so should be good anyhow.
