menu tasting - what to expect

Postby ms-to-mrs » Thu Nov 03, 2011 4:45 pm

Hi Missies,

This is probably a really silly question but what should I expect at the menu tasting?
Do we get a little bit of each course we chose or is it like a proper meal as it would be served for the wedding. Do they give you all different veg and types of potatoes to choose from?

Just wondering, I probably have too much time on my hands to say i'm thinking of things like this.

At my venue, there was 5 of us went, we picked 3 different starters, 5 different main courses and 5 different desserts.

Then we chose from there. I tasted beef from my h2b and salmon from my dad, I had the seabass. The potato and veg was the same as we will get at the wedding, it's just seasonal veg.

They gave us the wine that comes as part of our package. And we got the royal vip treatment :)

Enjoy it!

Do most hotels just let the couple do the menu tasting or is it normal to bring parents/BMs etc? Did your venue have any problem with 5 of you going Tanya?

With Our venue it was free for hubby and me to taste, there would be a charge if other people came.
Everything was served full size! Wear your big pants! Think we tried 4 mains, 3 starters and 4 desserts. We also got to taste the wines too. Think we did it about6-8 weeks before the wedding

We have ours on Wednesday so will let you know after! Its only me & H2B going. My Mum wanted to get in on the action but I cut her short! I think the more people that go the more opinions you get and my mother is very bloody opinionated!!! So me & H2B will decide what we will serve and she can just wait and see on the day!!!!

It's just me and H2B going to ours. Our tasting is at the end of the month. Five months before the wedding. Do you think this is too far ahead ? I didn't think it would make any difference but my sisters were all surprised that its so early.

They also just asked for a choice of two starters, soup and two main courses, two desserts so we're not really getting to taste a wide variety of whats available. I wonder if you dont like something would they arrange another tasting to try different choice.

Well our hotel offer free tasting for 4 people. So we bought my parents and h2b's surrogate mother :) His parents are dead. We paid for the 5th person.

Twas a full sit down meal, and I was very happy to have 5 people, as we got to taste more food than we could have if it was just the two of us.

We are doing ours about 6 months ahead too since we will be in Ireland at xmas. The hotel had suggested 6-8 weeks before but wedding planner said it would be no trouble doing it well before. I wouldn't worry about 5 months ahead. I'm looking forward to yummy food!!

Ours offered a menu tasting, most hotels usually do. Just the two of us went to the menu tasting, they didnt say any extra people could come (We didnt want them there anyway!). We had to pick 2 starters, 2 main courses, 2 soups and 2 desserts. They were full size meals and we were fit to explode! They also opened 4 bottles of wine, 2 white and 2 red to try, but H2b doesnt drink wine at all and I was driving so it was a waste! They did supply us with as much diet coke and ginger ale as we could drink though! :knockback We went in July and our wedding isnt until January. We didnt like the chicken on the meal tasting, so we are having the steak, despite not having tasted it. They said they could cook it, but we couldnt fit anymore in on the day.
