MY DRESS DILEMMA

Postby daffodil » Mon Mar 15, 2010 4:42 pm

hi all
went looking at dresses on my own thought it would be a good idea to get an idea myself first what i like before my 3 sisters throw opinions into the mix. bad idea found one i really liked at that appointment. i was sorry i didnt have their opinions then anyway i loved it that day apart from it being outside my budget i would have stretched to it. but that night i had a niggling doubt and over the next few days.it was a sample pronovia dress so it was a take it as is deal. i have now figured out whats wrong it fits me as i am now. had 2 babies in the last 2 years and still have a lot of baby weight to lose its going slowly but 2 stone to go. should i get this dress or wait until i feel better wedding in dec but it is a fab dress and i could not afford it full price. starting to feel really bad maybe i expected my wedding dress to do miracles

When you tried on the dress did you get a feeling like it was YOUR dress?? If you love it then I would say go for it but you need to be sure as it is still a lot of money. Another thing to consider is how many dress sizes can it be taken in?? Is there a dressmaker in the shop who can tell you if it can be altered?? Which Pronovias is it? I tried on a few and have to say I loved them!

Hi Daffofil, first thing I would say is maybe not rush into it. I went shopping on three different days and each day I found a dress I liked better than the day before!
I had it down to 3 dresses and then had to have some 'quiet time' and think about it. Then it will just come to you what to do, sounds naff but its true.
Go back, bring the girls this time too, but also go to another few shops to see what else is out there just so you absolulely know its the right one, before you make the big commitment!
Good luck!

Daffodil, just remember that its easier to take a dress in then let it out. If you love it that much then don't let it go, continue to lose the weight slowing and closer to the time have a fitting, if it needs to come in then it shouldnt be too hard for a good seamstress to take it in for you.

:iagree if you really love it then get it. Have a chat with the lady in the shop about alterations and how many sizes can it come in etc... If its a corset back it can come in 2 dress sizes. What type of pronovia dress is it?

I am having my own dress dilemma at the minute (have a topic in Beauty and Fashion), as I found a dress I loved the first day, then went a second day and found another dress I love and didn't expect to..

So you have to make sure that it is the dress you love before you buy it

If it is then talk to the shop they should be able to tell you how much the dress can be altered

hi daffodil
i think if you seen a dress you really like its a great thing and if its way out of ur budget go dress shopping again and there myt be something else out there that u see that u like and if there is its great but by going dress shopping to a diff shop you will also come to realise just how much you like the one you have seen and if you can justify spending lots of yoyos on it...
good luck
let us know what u decide.

Take your ssisters to set the dress, but also shop around, if your wedding is this december, its good that you are looking as if you find a diff dress you are leaving plenty of time for it to be ordered and come in and then get altered as needed. If this is defo your dress, then I would get it, but remember you are going to have to factor in alterations to it, especially if you lose weight between now and then. If its a corset back dress then it will be easier to adjust as the lace up back allows this, however if it is a zip up, it can be harder. If it is above your budget as it is, how much more will alterations put it over.

Don't buy without another opinion, but at the same time, it depends on how you feeel in the dress aswell, you will always know the right dress!

maybe if you arranged another appoinment to go back with the girls but make it an evening appointment. make a few appointments in other shops for the morning. by the time you get to that dress, if you still want it more than anything, then get it. at least you will have something to compare it to! let us kno what you decide!

hi girls
went dress shopping again with my sisters and mother tried on 2000 dresses ok only seemed like that many really only 20-25. i made an appointment with a few shops they liked a few of them. i left the original dress i liked until last. as soon as i saw it i got a flutter and as soon as everyone saw it i got a reaction that none of the other dresses got like wow. so i bought it delighted now :crazy
