New Park Kilkenny for Wedding Reception?

Postby MrsMactobe » Wed Nov 23, 2011 6:23 pm

Hi All,
We are still deciding on a date for our wedding (as my FSIL announced her engagement a week after ours :( ) but have also been looking at different venues. We want to get married in Kilkenny and I was just wondering has anyone had or been to a wedding in the New Park Hotel recently? Kilkeny has a really good choice of hotels so I'm finding it hard to narrow it down! would love some help! thanks a mill!

Hi MrsMactobe,
Havent been to a weddin myself there recently but i do know its a fab hotel, i've only ever heard good things about it. i'm gettin married in kilkenny too and the only reason we didnt go with newpark is 'cuz my H2B's cousin is gettin married there next year and we wanted to go somewhere different. When we were looking at venues it was highly recommended to us and i know a few people who are gettin married there in the future,
Sorry i don't know the hotel myself but i hope that helps anyway :D

Hi there i am from Kilkenny and i have booked Newpark hotel for my wedding so im am completely biased of course. But it thinks its a lovely friendly hotel with good food, clean and nice staff. defo isnt the cheapiest tho and they are very proud of their good name and will use this to justify their price. But h2b and myself wont not book anywhere else!! hopefully im saying that this time next year:)

It is one of the most popular venues for the brides I have worked with from Kilkenny, and from going past regularly, it is always busy.

thanks for the replies everyone, yeah its pretty much got a great reputation, the staff seem lovely and the reception room is what we want.
:happywave Snowy- I was wondering what sort of package you and yur H2be worked out with the Newpark? what have they included? Like you said its a little pricier than some other hotels and I have a friend who is a wedding photographer and he said we shouldnt be paying for things like chair covers, etc, that we should haggle out a deal with the hotel since we are looking at a guestlist of about 180?
thanks again!

we have a few dates in mind. We did go and visit the hotel the last time we were in Kilkenny, met a really nice manager there and he showed us the reception room, was very relaxed we told him we had a few dates and he was grand, no pressure on us. It will definitly be a friday during the summer (2013)as both H2be and I will have a lot of people travelling and we want to make the weekend out of it. Tallula- they havent gone over anything with us yet mainly because I havent got a clue what to ask for!

don't know if this will help hun but some of the things we got were complimentary rooms for both sets of parents and the bridal suite on the night, chair covers and center pieces, flower arrangements for the ceremony room( having it at the hotel) half bottle of wine per person during the meal and they'l top up everyones glasses for the speeches, we also got the bar extension free....i no we got more but thats all i can think of at the mo ha...the best thing is just ask for everything and see what you can get ha

Hi, my friend cancelled her wedding reception there a couple of years back, they were quite obnoxious to her and she is quite a laid-back person. Hopefully, it has changed and by the look of the reviews above, it seems they have.....

Ah please don't worry :hug3 ..... the person who was in charge of their booking at the time was quite rude to her and didn't engage in price haggling or whatever.... very upsetting for them but it was a couple of years back so hopefully that person has gone, I don't know their name though. If you are happy with their service now, she is obviously gone. Was terrible at the time, they were quite arrogant about the whole thing, my friend is quite a gentle person and they really put the boot in... they lost a huge wedding because of it :jeez .....I hope everything goes OK for you.... :justarried2
