Passport in married name before wedding?
Passport in married name before wedding?
Is this possible, how can you change your name before it's legal or is this bull crap?

could be wrong but i tink you need to send off your marriage cert in order to change your name on your passport.

Re: Passport in married name before wedding?
mrsw2beThis is something I need to find out too but like puddy2shoes I thought you had to send marriage cert off. I'm getting married June 2nd and will be on honeymoon when my passport expires. Was thinking I'd have to renew passport with my maiden name before the wedding and then change after the honeymoon. Seems like such a lot of hassle though so would be great if your article was right. Can't see how they'd do it without documentation. Def something to look into though
thanks x-

Re: Passport in married name before wedding?
I had a look at the Irish Passport Office website http://www.dfa.ie/home/index.aspx?id=254
but there is nothing on it about changing your name when getting married. In one of the lists of documents to send when applying it did mention "marriage certificate (if applicable)". Can't imagine they would let you get new passport in married name before the wedding - what if someone changed their mind and didn't get married? I think safest thing is to book the honeymoon in your maiden name and change your passport and everything else when you get back.

Re: Passport in married name before wedding?
You can, if you want, change your name by Deed Poll, you can go to the Central Office of the High Court, get the paperwork from them, sign it, get someone to witness it and pay the fee. All together it'd be about €50.00. Get a Solicitor to do it and it'd be a bit more. Complete waste of time though it's only a name after all and you can bring a copy of your marriage cert with you when travelling if there is any difficulty with your name in other countries.
I think I'll wait out the 10 years!

Just save yourselves hassle and book Honeymoon under maiden name and make sure that there is about 6 months validity on your current passport - each country is different but 6 months is about standard.
